Room Switch?

Hey all - I was hoping someone might be able to answer my pretty-specific question about housing. I'm actually a rising sophomore who of course participated in room draw, and I ended up with a pretty decent single in my res college. However, a friend with a diff single and I were discussing our rooms and realized that we both kind of regretted our choice of room, and would want to switch if possible. Does housing ever accommodate this sort of thing? Of course, the only way to find out would be to ask, but I just was wondering whether to expect rejection :) Thanks for bothering to read all that/offering your thoughts!

Probably they won’t let you switch (they do occasionally move people who are having major roommate issues though). However, it’s definitely possible to unofficially switch. A few of my friends have done that. Only issue would be that if you got locked out, public safety wouldn’t let you back into the room without your friend there (I’ve only known people to do it in suites, where that wouldn’t be as much of an issue).

thanks for your reply! (:

Officially swapping rooms is incredibly difficult (especially if its not freshman week meltdowns). The university discourages it otherwise people would simply trade room draw slots like a market economy (not necessarily a bad thing ). A friend of mine ended up switching unofficially with someone else. Like stlkarategal mentioned, it can get tricky if you get locked out or if someone is looking for you and they use the Princeton directory.
