i have a few questions that AskHousing isn’t making clear for me:

what’s the difference between a room transfer and a room swap?

2a. what are the chances of getting a room transfer?

2b. is a room change guaranteed if you find someone willing to swap rooms with you?

can we swap for the first quarter?

how do we initiate a room swap, if we find someone to swap with?

is there any central place where people go to find other people to swap with?

2a. slim since there are kids in lounges who don't have a room to stay in. wait, let me restate that. if you are trying to transfer into a doubles, the chances are slim.

2b. i don't see why it shouldn't be okay. what is there to lose?

yes. a few of my friends are hoping to change rooms.

you should email the housing place and ask them that.

you mean, a hangout place where people put up notices to see if they want to change rooms? i-don't-think-so.

a friend of mine wants to change a plaza to a residential hall. you have to be a girl though.

I think the difference is that a room transfer is when you request a change through the housing office, and a room swap is when you find someone you wanna change with, then request that particular change.

Fall quarter does not have an open transfer period as there are no open spaces. Students can meet with their Resident Director(RD) to discuss the possibility of swapping rooms with another student. Please make an appointment to meet with your RD. Room Swaps will be accommodated beginning October 4, 2006.

There is an "Open Transfer Period" for Winter and Spring. Residents may submit a Transfer Request Form to the Housing Assignment Office during this time. The upcoming Open Transfer Period dates are as follows:

Winter 2007: January 15, 2007 – January 29, 2007
Spring 2007: April 5, 2007– April 12, 2007

To begin the process and to obtain a form, you must meet with the Resident Director or Rental Coordinator of your building. The fulfillment of your request will be based on availability and is not guaranteed..

Residents who wish to change their accommodations must make proper arrangements with their Resident Director. Occupancy changes include room or suite changes, roommate changes, inter-hall transfers, and termination of housing contracts. All of these changes are regulated by specific procedures. Some changes are limited to certain time periods and some changes require an administrative fee to be paid at the Housing Cashiers Office. Students who participate in unauthorized changes may be subject to disciplinary action and/or an administrative charge. It is important to consult with your Resident Director well in advance of your anticipated occupancy change in order to clarify procedures and receive authorization to initiate the process.

So, basically, contact the RD of your hall/plaza to get specific/accurate info.

swift: Where are you living? I'm looking for a room swap person. I currently live in Sunset Village - Canyon Point and I'm looking for something up in Hedrick Summit, Rieber Vista, or Rieber Terrace. Please let me know.
