i dont want my roomate to be chosen, because he has the same ethnicity as me or we're from the same area. (personal preference)
does UCSB pair up roomates based on these criteria or do u have to state this to them directly or on the app

I have the same question. I'm guessing there isn't a space on the housing form to say what ethnicity you want your roommate to be, bur can you slip it in some how elsewhere? I am afraid of getting the stereotypical UCSB blonde haired, blue eyed, white jock (Not to offend anyone, it's just there were too many of them at my high school).

oh yea and do they look at the ethnicity u put on ur normal app when making decisions?

(i put african-american), but im not black, but african descent (north)

i wouldnt care if my roomate was white, asian, hispanic, black, etc, but i dont want them to put me with a person because of what i put for my ethncity on my app and narrow down all other races.

I have a similar problem. I am Middle Eastern, which they classify as white on the UC app. I think what I will do is just request the multicultural floor at Franciso Torres and hope for the best.

thats a good idea JoKaA. i think rightfully i had to put "other" on my app, but , but i took things a little too literally. kinda did the opposite u did. but yea, u should apply early though if u want a special interest floor. im fine with any floor as long as it is in my first choice residence hall.
