Now that my daughter has been accepted to BC, we are planning a visit next week from San Francisco. These may seem like dumb questions, but appreciate any “words of wisdom”. Are the twin beds standard or extra long? What furniture is provided in the dorm rooms? Basic bed, desk, chair and dresser? Are there sinks in the room?

I’m sure we will have the opportunity to see a dorm and I’ve heard about the Bed, Bath and Beyond college delivery system. How much is truly needed? Does it vary from dorm to dorm as to what furniture is provided?

Also is there a questionnaire sent out to pair roommates??

Any info is greatly appreciated and thanks so much!

Beds: I believe they are twin extra long
Furniture: Bed, bed frame, chair, desk, dresser.
Sinks: There are only communal bathrooms for freshman. Some students get a suite in their sophomore year.

Bed, Bath, and Beyond: I’m from NYC so I never really had to use BBB, but I don’t see why or how it is really needed. Your essentials are all provided for you and there really isn’t much you need. You can easily go to BBB, but your stuff there, and take the T back to the school.

The furniture provided for each room is relatively standard. Every freshman dorm has the bed, frame, desk, chair, dresser. Couches are added on in the suites, but everything is pretty standardized.

Questionnaire: Yes, there is a questionnaire given out over the summer. It should be in your housing stuff on agora.

I believe MA. law states that buildings with 4 or more floors are required to have elevators. The majority of the freshman dorm buildings are only 3 floors so there aren’t many steps to take. The ones with 4 floors obviously have an elevator so it’ll be even less steps.

Thanks Miragemage for your prompt replies. My first child off to college in the fall and being 3,000+ miles away is scary. I think she will adjust better than me!!

I believe a facebook page gets organized for incoming BC freshmen, where your daughter can perhaps meet someone with like interests and room together. It should be in one of the emails she receives.

On move in day, BC students carry your boxes, etc from the curb to your room, regardless of how many steps.

Thank you ColdCase. Now that the hard part of waiting for the acceptance letter has come, I’m starting to have nightmares of getting everything organized and figuring out how to get it across the country. I need to calm down. :)

:) Like most California students, you should only bring essential items such as clothes, shoes, necessary electronics, etc. The rest can easily be bought in Boston.

It’s just more convenient to have a printer; however, it’s not necessary. I personally have a printer, but the software doesn’t work for it. I just leave for class 5 minutes early so I can print the handouts I need for my classes.
