yeah lol, sorry. i was thinking ultra-right wing republican conservative type. i held off on the words "racist hick."

...although that's what you meant. :) Didn't think you meant someone who would contemplate voting for Romney in '08.

So where is this land of sweet tea and cows, ariesathena?

I'm black and will be going to Towson University which is a predominately white preppy, pastel color popping campus. But at the same token- you dont see black people posting SOS I have three white roommates (my the heat I would get), help me. Its not that serious and no one really cares. I think its about time that you start acting like the college age adult that I am sure you are. I mean it is 2005 you know.

While everyone emphasizes learning other peoples cultures, it shouldnt be like that. The last thing I want someone asking me is why do I eat chicken boxes or why I drink Kool-Aid, I'm not really there to be a specimen. More than likely there is no difference in culture or "lifestyle" as you so elegantly put it. Forget about skin color or ethnicity either you like someone or you dont.

For the record, no one wears FUBU anymore.

FWIW, the OP was not born in this country but Leningrad, USSR and it is unclear when he came here. Came here plunked down in Florida, was a "math wiz", chess team member, valedictorian of his class, perhaps (and I say this in the very best sense of the word) a bit of a geek/nerd. It is obvious neither he nor his parents are as exposed to or familiar with Blacks or Latinos in this country. And maybe his position and experience in school left him a bit more apprehensive than you or your kids might be. So he came here asking for advice, and you all (many) pounced on him. Cut the kid a bit of slack. It was not an unreasonable question or even fear from his standpoint.

Probably the real question you ought to ascertain is whether perhaps your potential room mates share your interest in math and other studies. That would unite you more than anything else. What would scare me more than anything else in your position would be rooming with 3 members of the football team.

haha whats funny is that at penn, they get to choose their roommates. so my friend (whos indian) was gonna room with two black guys, who he met electronically. haha, because i think he used a profile icon that was like a cartoony jamaican dude they thought he was black. once they found out he wasnt, they were like hell no.

I'm not. Before I moved to the private school I went to, I went to a public school in a sort of white "hick"part of town....we had maybe one or two black kids, no jews at all, and again, one or two asian kids. They were pretty much outcast by the other kids, and me too--I didn't really have anything to do with them. There are actually more "diverse" kids at my white/preppy priavte school. There are some cultural differnces, and different opinions, etc....but since the shcool is small, I was in close quarters with them, and it turned out they wre great people!!

The OP was born in Russia? ... so was I...

Codasco704, good for you! I've never been to any kind of "hick" town in my life, and my school was extremely diverse. I am glad you were able to experience something beyond what the public school in your town offered :)

notice the OP hasn't posted on this thread for the last 3 pages

Being Jewish isn't a race or ethnicity! Its a religion. Im agine someone saying they didnt want to live with a Christian.

But with that religion comes a strong culture. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that (I'm a new yorker, how could i?) but it would be silly to say that for some with the religion comes a strong cultural identity.

a quote from the OPs Valedictorian speech:

"...But after tonight, we will face the even more difficult tests in the universities and life. We will meet them face-to-face too, and as we venture out into our futures to learn new lessons in life and conquer new challenges"

hmm, seems like someone didn't heed their own words.

But at the same token, you dont see Jewish students being discriminated at schools. Or you dont factor jewish people into an Affirmative Action equation. Or a Jewish Student Union.

Well I meam I didn't move to the priavte school, and move away from the areaa (I'm not a hick, far from it!) for the diversity (the public school was horrible, they didn't teach!), but it was a "side effect" (in a good way) that I didn't even think about until I moved schools, and I'm glad I did?

They don't have a Jewish Student Union but they do have campus Hillel groups, which serve the same purpose.

I hope they allow you to change. . . .so your 3 other roommates don't have to deal with you.

You haven't even moved in with them and you're already set on moving out just because they happen to be black. I'm sorry for being blunt. . .but you should give it chance first!

Sorry upfront. Not intended to be offensive!

3 black guys and a white guy.. watch out buddy! you are going to get r@ped.

Oh.. I thought you meant mates in a prison cell! Now that I know you meant college dorm roommates, shame on you!

BTW, what school? If you're going to Howard, I think I know why you have 3 black roommates. If I were you, hope for Jamaicans.. they are the coolest of the bunch.. reggae in the mornin', reggae in the evenin'!

Is the orginal post some kind of joke?

ok, why would anyone create a website based on his/her high school graduation?

I mean I'm sure many of us here graduated in the top 5 out of 500 in our class.....

hummers

so I guess I should have made websites when I won state competitions...pity the trophies are in the garage

Wow...what an incredibly egotistical website the OP made! A perfect example of why people with top-notch stats often get rejected from the elite colleges.
