Okay so this may sound very trivial but it’s serious. So ever since I’ve been in school my room has smelled awful. At first I thought it was a combination of me and my roommate, but I suddenly realized it’s my roommate. He hasn’t washed his bedding since move in day which was August 15th, he barely does laundry, showers every other day and puts on the same clothes. I’ve tried everything. Air fresheners, febreeze, deep cleaning, and plug ins (which we aren’t even supposed to have). The only thing that works is my roommate leaving. Recently he left for about 4 days and my room spelled so fresh and clean but right when he came back it went back to normal. Its really embarrassing bringing people over and having them deal with the smell of my room and I don’t know what to say to my roommate because I can’t make him do something he doesn’t want to do.
Talk to your RA. This lack of hygeine could be laziness or could be a sign of some other issues.
When he is sleeping lather him in soap then throw a bucket of cold water on him and give him a bath like this until the problems stops.
Tell him that visitors are noting a bad odor in the room and suggest a collaborative clean up effort to include going and doing laundry together. Do yours, sheets and all, as well if he agrees. If that doesn’t work then you have no choice but to discuss the problem with your RA, and perhaps request a room change.
@Ray 1996…We had this freshman year with a student in our hall many years ago. No one wanted to address it until finally it got so bad we had to do something. One day we ended up giving him a gift basket of soap, cologne, toothpaste, and deodorant. About eight of us also had an intervention with him later that day. We really liked him and did not want to hurt his feelings but really wanted to help him. We were concerned about how he affected others and how he could not meet women. It worked and he was much happier too as his social life really took off!
Also, Ona gel is terrific! Put a few spoonfuls on a plate or small bowl and it will absorb the worst odors and make your room smell fresh for days. Ozium Air Sanitizer spray also helps for a quicker shorter term solution.
Good luck dealing with your roommate.
I had a roommate with this problem. Talk to your RA. Or suggest you guys do laundry together, and say it is time to change the sheets.
Sounds like the RA should be contacted. Good luck.
Talk to him as a friend before talking to RA: Your bed smells badly. Your body smells badly. You need to wash you sheet and take baths regularly, man! I cannot stand it.
You know, mandalorian, the kid has a real problem here - giving funny-ha-ha solutions isn’t cool.
