Roommates & Beds

My S seems to be having a little trouble with logging on today. So, just wondering, how will we receive the roommate survey -- e-mail, snail mail, or does he have to go online to fill out the roommate form? Is the form available yet? Also, what size are the beds at Tulane -- Extra Long Twin or Regular Twin? Thanks.

i called to ask the same question and was told all dorms had the extra long beds.

From what I remember reading, the Room Mate Click would be open around 5/18. I have heard someone mention that it was difficult to use and that the facebook page that is set up already was more helpful.

Yes Facebook page seemed to work out well for my son last year. He posted his profile on Tulane 2012 group page and someone contacted him. They ended up sharing a room and were satisfied with the process and result. His other friends (met at Tulane) went through the roommate matching service by Tulane and also turned out to be a good fit.

We got the bedding (including extra long sheets) from JCPenny website.

The housing website says Sharp has standard twin beds. I have no personal knowledge of this, but check to be sure before you purchases XL twin sheets if there is any chance your student could end up in Sharp.

my S chose Sharp as his first choice and i saw that on the website too so i called the school and was told they all have extra long twin beds now.

Any idea when we find out which residence hall we have been placed in?

They let you know in July.

Being new to college confidential, I am a parent of a daughter who was just accepted to Wall Hall. So, parents out there with daughters accepted to Wall also, maybe we can help the roommate search along.

My son was also just accepted to Wall Hall. His second choice was Butler and I think he would have been fine at either of the two. I’ve read the earlier postings about the various dorms on this site, but I’m still not sure what to expect his dorm life to be in Wall…very involved? Will he study as much as he might have in Butler? Will he be able to join the other honors kids at the roundtables they have at Butler? Are there any other parents out there whose son is going to be living/currently lives in Wall?

My S was also accepted to WALL today. I think he thought that WALL looked nicer and more comfortable than the other dorms. He didn’t want Butler and put Monroe as his second choice. I’d also like to hear about life in WALL from someone who has lived there as a freshman.

I think they’re going to be sending out information regarding roommateclick.com soon. I assume they try to match students with compatible profiles.

My son already filled out the profile for a roommate, but I told him to look on Facebook (Tulane class of 2013) as well…my older son (at another school) met a lot of kids that way long before he set foot on campus.

My D was accepted to Wall also. Interesting that they had an application process attached to it. I read the description and it seems that, along with the fact that a professor lives there, it encourages more active involvement in the dorm and perhaps in the university and community as well. It’s hard to tell right now. She has also posted on the roommate search site. She compared to to going on E-Harmony or Match.Com. It’s a thrilling time for these kids. My D is so excited.

BTW Is anyone who will be staying at Wall going to attend the June Orientations? We will be attending the final one on June 29 & 30.
