My D will be in the BFA MT voice emphasis program. Any BFA actors out there?

I’m pretty sure my S’s going, but you already know about him.

My son was accepted into the BFA acting program for this fall. He toured the building and gorgeous dorms with the bazillion dollar views of Chicago and the lake and fell in love with it.

However, the financial aid is pretty slim and the program does come at a hefty price tag. Not sure we want to encourage taking on that kind of debt.

We are worried about that, too.

Off the waitlist, BFA Acting! Not happy about the financial aid offer. Sigh.

I had a meeting with financial aid while here and all he offered were those horrible Parent Plus loans. He said that CCPA has no need-based aid whatsoever…this is marked contrast to the rest of Roosevelt. Parents should NOT rely on the net price calculator linked to Ccpa’s site which is inaccurate to the point of fraudulence. We had a $30.000 per year difference between the estimate and actual.

Thanks for the inside info on that. I was prepared to write an appeal letter asking if they could match the $ received from another school, but if they have no need-based aid, it would be in vain, it sound like. Do they pull all these awards from “merit based” pool? Received $3000. Would need to be $10,000 to match current offer.

My impression is that they have given away all their money, but you should still go ahead and try. It depends obviously on how much they want you. In my S’s case perhaps not all that much. There is also not any academic money. My s really liked the people he met there, but my contact was all with admissions/financial aid types who did not seem to care very much about our situation. Again I’m sure it’s different if they really want you.

My S did his housing questionnaire last night, so it seems real at this point. Kinda glad I’ve only got one…this has been pretty wrenching.

I don’t think it has anything to do with how much they want your S. If they don’t offer merit scholarships (which accounts for the much larger awards offered at other schools) and they don’t have any need-based aid on the CCPA side of the school (which is what financial aid told you jkellynh17, right?) then they are just offering small talent awards to most kids. Maybe a few kids are getting GIANT talent awards, but we don’t know that! A friend of my D’s was also accepted at CCPA and many other BFA’s but he is going to Webster because of their much more generous FA.

Yes, you’re probably right. That meeting with FA was pretty horrible, but I don’t suppose my son will have to deal with them much so maybe it doesn’t matter. I think the no need-based aid is fairly recent. You can go back a couple of years on this site and find people talking about getting housing grants and so on from CCPA.

Anyway, we’re in. Now I have to make more money, I guess.

Hi all,

My son ended up declining CCPA/acting because of the financial expense. He’s going to UIC’s theatre school, which is strictly drama, and is much more affordable–and they gave a very nice talent award–and it’s a state school. I just couldn’t see the nearly doubled debt he would have to shoulder after graduation from CCPA–in addition to what we would be funding.

CCPA was a lovely school, really wonderful audition process, and really nice people. Gorgeous dorms and school and fabulous location. I think their theatre connections would have been great, but in the end I think he–like everyone here–will be very happy with the decision made.
