Got deferred
anyone have advice on things to do now?
@HCXBE - First, keep in mind deferred is not denied! So, keep in touch with them, send this semesters grades, any new test scores (may want to take some again), let them know of any new activities etc.
Acceptance letter came today. Feeling very fortunate.
Strange, my son did not receive an acceptance or a denial. He got nothing. Until yesterday that is, that’s when he received a letter with a “Banner Web” pin number and instructions about making a $400 enrollment deposit. Did he get in and is the original letter lost (not surprising our mail service is horrible)? He’ll call RHIT admissions this afternoon, but in the meantime does anyone know if this is a sign of acceptance?
Never mind. He’s in. As we suspected the original letter never got to us. RHIT should consider going digital with their acceptances. Here in the wilds of lower Manhattan it is difficult to get a letter. Too bad he never got his glasses though!
Just as an FYI, in case others where wondering about applying for elite scholarships, son got Circle of Distinction scholarship letter asking him to apply. 4 days after acceptance letter came.
S got in. He received his PIN letter before his acceptance as well. We didn’t receive the admittance letter until a week after it was sent but our mail service in south Texas is not the fastest. We visited this summer.
Received acceptance letter on the 14th. Received a letter on 17th telling me I had been awarded the Rose-Hulman Commitment Scholarship, which grants full tuition!
Fifteen days until the posted notification for RD. Does anyone know if they typically send notifications early and if they post when they have notified?
@ebandflo From what I have seen it looks like the mail them out so they arrive near or on the decision date.
Looking forward to receiving my Rose-Hulman decision!
Thanks! S hoping for acceptance letter too! Checked the portal this am and there was no reference to any results. Rose is a great school with an excellent reputation. Hope you get in!
Just called admissions, as the RH website says “on or before March 15” for regular decision applicants. They told me decision letters were sent by snail mail last week; there’s no way to check online, and RH will not tell you if you call. Pins and needles waiting for the mail and keeping fingers crossed for scholarship $, too. Good luck to all.
Got a cryptic letter today - single page instructions for logging into a financial services account. I guess that’s RH’s obtuse way of saying my D’s in? Odd.
@zenmommy, I saw that too, thought it was curious. There was however a second letter with the actual admission letter. The mailing you have is the password for logging in. They just separated it from the main acceptance letter and instructions. You’ll probably get that shortly.
Accepted today Yay!
Any idea when financial aid and or merit decisions are expected to be sent?
Merit info received today.
Same as well. Received rhit merit and endeavor scholarship totaling about $25,000 which was a pleasant surprise considering I got rejected for the other scholarships.
Son got $20,750 merit, and nothing from any named scholarships. And nothing need based, no surprise there. Applied for Circle of Distinction but didn’t make semi finalist round. I believe last year merit ran from $6,000- $21,000. Merit is just not enough for us. We are not making up the $42,000 difference. Rose is a good school, but for that kind of money he can go to Georgia Tech, where he has also been admitted. Auburn is also a choice because he has scholarship and we are in state. Love Rose, but to us it is just not worth $168,000. Other concern is in we live in Huntsville, Alabama which has the second highest per capita rate of engineers in the nation. And, only a few people have even heard of Rose. Those who have think it is excellent, but it lacks name recognition outside the midwest. Best of luck to all in admissions and scholarships!
So … curious if any other applicants out there got rejected, as my S did, and what their GPA/scores were like? We’re a bit mystified, as we were fairly confident he’d be in. S had a 33 composite (not superscored), with a 31 in reading, 31 in science, 33 in math, and 35 in English. uGPA was a 3.8 and wGPA a 4.07. Nearly all honors and AP classes, including AP CompSci and two other college-level Computer Science classes. We were under impression, given the fact that RHIT doesn’t ask for references and doesn’t really have a holistic review process, that those kinds of grades and test scores virtually assured admission. All the data we saw said the middle 50% for ACT scores was 27 to 32, so a rejection just seems really odd, given that he was in the top quartile of test scores. Anyone with a similar story or any thoughts on what we’re missing?
@camsdad That does seem really surprising. In most cases I wouldn’t ask the school but maybe you should given that he is at the top of the accepted pool. DId he have all of the required courses? (4 years English, 4 years Mathematics, 2 years Social Sciences, 1 year Chemistry, 1 year Physics). Do you have any idea what his recommendation was like?
My daughter has a friend who was rejected from Purdue Engineering just because he was missing one of the required classes.
