Ross Math Camp -Advice Needed ASAP

My son, 17, is considering attending Ross Math Camp. He’s a white, jewish kid from Cali and LOVES math (all APs, math clubs, competition math etc.). I want to know if there will be kids like him at Ross. He’s spent the last 7 summers at a sleepaway camp in Massachusetts, but really wanted to do math this summer. I’m concerned that the 6 weeks of all math will be too long and he’ll regret not doing something more “social”. I really hate to stereotype and i apologize for cutting to the case, but I don’t want him to feel like the only white kid. Bear in mind, he does spend a significant amount of time doing math problems in his free time. Any thoughts or help is much appreciated!!

My son has been the only white kid on the ARML bus. It’s OK. They all love math and will geek out together.

Mine did 6 weeks of astrophysics when he was in high school, and said it was the best summer ever.

I think you may expect at least some Jewish kids with Eastern European parents
That said, he’s already different enough from his peers in that he likes doing math problems in his free time, and he might have a lot more in common with Asian kids at Ross than with many other white kids who are not going there. My own son has mostly Asian friends at HS.

Thank you-you read my mind. Appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks!!!

Hi all, I couldn’t find any info about 2018 ROSS acceptance or rejection? Anyone received a response yet? I am still waiting for the response. Please share any info you may have. Thanks!

My son was accepted and going. Have you heard yet? I hope you get in!

My two daughters were on ARML team. ROSS is a great program, my oler daughters got into but they decided to do something else as they found they were interested in other things. if he wants to learn proof based math, it is a great program. He will benefit if he wants to pusue math further. He will find lots of kids like him. It is very difficult program to be accepted. Congratulations on job well done, encourage him to attend if he likes it. My third kid is also ARML team. She did jot apply for ROSS summer program. She is also not going to ARML as she has found free scholarhsip to travel abroad before she start working. If in math I will choose it in a heart beat.
