Ross School of Business

Does anyone get Forbes?
There was a recent ranking of the top business schools on there.

Ross was not even on the list. Why is this?

I actually saw this today. The ranking is different in that it is purely based on the return on investment of an MBA at the various schools. Still, it's very odd that Ross isn't listed in the top 50. Possible ****-up.

In response to the question about essays: I believe that the main purposes of the essay is to REALLY show that you are able to communicate concisely and effectively the reasons why you want to pursue a BBA, how a BBA will fit into your career aspirations, and if you are a good fit for the BBA program.

For the 3 year program there were 3 essay questions.

How will a Michigan BBA help you in your career?
-Simple. They are looking for if you have really researched the school, if you earnestly believe that the BBA program is the right one for you, and if you have all the right reasons for wanting to be in Ross. Obviously, you don't want to write that because you want to make lots of money or that you want to attend because Ross is ranked high. Instead you could write about how you can take advantage of the reputation of Ross to network (which could help you make lots of money ;) ). Write about what programs/classes/unique features of Ross will help you.

Describe a time you worked in a group and what role you played.
-The BBA program puts heavy emphasis on groupwork, since all the work you do in the "real world" is pretty much all group work. How well do you play with others? Will others want to work with you? How willing are you to accept other people ideas and opinions? Dont' be fooled into thinking that you HAVE to write specifically about a time where you were a leader and in charge of something.

Aside from class and classowrk, describe your most important activity at Ross.
-This is a more personal question. I think that they are trying to get a feel for who you really are besides your resume and academics. Write about something that you care about, and why it was important. What clubs are you involved in? Where did you volunteer? How did it contribute to your growth and experience at Michigan? Are you a good person?

In adddition to the essays, do not forget to put work into your resumes; they are the first thing that admissions officers will see. They will not spend too much time on it, so be able to write concise and captivate them. Resumes are where you stand out and highlight accomplishments. Theres resources on the b-school website for help in writing good resumes.

I thought they had taken out resumes for applications? Maybe I heard wrong?

dont know.

I had to do one :o It was a good experience though...i just sent out that resume when summer came around for jobs.

Yeah, they got rid of resumes after our class. They also got rid of the essay question about your career aspirations. The idea is still there (i.e. Why a BBA?), but the question is worded so that you don't mention a specific career goal. I guess they don't want us to be narrow-minded at this stage.

Wow! only 6%? Any idea on how that compares to Wharton?

Wharton is around 9-11% i believe..but 6%? i thought it was like 16%...

doesnt this indicate that 198/1044, or around 19% of preferred admits get in? correct me if i'm wrong

yea i dont know what the other eople are talkin about..i saw something like 18 percent on their website too.

Wait wait wait...

I'm still confused...

If I apply PA to Ross, but don't get in, does that mean I don't get into Michigan?

Or is it possible to apply PA to Ross, not get in to Ross, but still get accepted to Engineering?

you can def. get accepted to engineering independent of ross. i know this because i was accepted to lsa, no word yet on ross

When do ross early action decisions come out?? I feel like someone hanging on a cliff waiting for a wind to blow me up or down into the ravine. :)
