ROTC at Ivy League Schools

I was wondering if including that I want to participate in ROTC and serve in the military after college would help or hurt my chances at Harvard and other Ivy League schools. I added that I want to serve my term of service then go into business as well. Does it make me standout due to the fact that hardly any Ivy League students participate in ROTC? I also have good stats. 34 ACT, 4.5 GPA, and very good EC's

If I can offer this advice I rec’d from another ROTC grad giving advice about ROTC: “I always tell young people to not use the military as a stepping stone to something else. They should be interested in the military because they think it might be a great career.”

No, I seriously doubt that this would help you get admitted to Harvard or any other Ivy League level university. It won’t hurt you either. Of course, if this is an integral part of who you are and your life goals, then it is best to mention it because it will make your application more real. Interest in ROTC in itself, though, would not be much of what is called a “hook.”

The only possible exception would be if ROTC has a scholarship quota to fill at an Ivy League school, and you got a scholarship. Then, perhaps, maybe, but not so sure, the military might use a little effort to see if they could help you get in. Not likely, frankly, but possible.
