Rough Start..Pretty Down About Transferring

I'm a pretty good student, but have had a bad start at community college (it's my first quarter). I'm attending De Anza BTW.

I'm taking 4 classes:

World History - 100% (current grade in class) - should easily pull an "A" in this class

Political Science (American Gov) - 76% (current grade in class). Class it out of 1000 points. So far, I have 343, 450. Rest of grade is based on a pop quiz (100 points), a group project (250 points), and a take home final (300 points). Not sure if I should drop this class and take a "W".

Cultural Anthropology - 100% (current grade in class). Did poorly on midterm (69%). Extra credit boosted me. I'm not eligible for any more extra credit in the class. Midterm left final, and research paper left to do complete in class.

History of Architecture - Not sure about my grade. Pretty easy class though. Should pull a high "B", or low "A".

Now, I know it's probably way too early to be worrying, but hey..I'm worrying. I want to get out of CC in 2 years, and transfer to UCB or UCLA.

Any words of wisdom/advice?

Thanks guys/gals!

hi, im also a cc student looking to transfer this year. Congrats for the As for ur class. Well if i were to give u advice i would have need to know what major u plan on going into. Because if i you were to drop your current class with a C, you’ll waste money and the time you spent on it. I hope you plan on trying to raise that 76 into a B or higher because ur really close to that B.

I was in a similar situation last year when I took poli science at de anza. My teacher had these extra help sessions after class to help us on the take home final. My advice is to not not drop since you have a pretty high C and of course a “c” looks better than a “w.” Also go to the free tutors they have at de anza in the ATC building.

agreed with above. you’re at a good spot in terms of pushing past this slump of yours - 76% is doable to get a B, if you work at it. ideally, you want all A’s, but a B is remarkably better than a W. and like the others said: a C is also better than a W. 'course i wouldn’t bank on it - since you’re applying to UCB and UCLA - a B is better than a C, naturally.

good luck.
