Routers in dorms

I heard that Wash U policy bans routers in dorms, even for personal use. True/false? And does anyone know where this info is listed?

This is true. If your found with a router they will write you up or something. However, my roommate and I chose to use one anyway in order to avoid the crazy costs of internet. You just have to be smart about it and not leave it out in the open or leave it in your room over breaks.

You have to pay extra to use the internet? i thought it was included.

nope u have to pay to use it in the dorms. It's free around campus though.

Actually, I emailed ResTech at the beginning of last year, and the only routers that are not allowed are wireless routers. In other words, you and your roommate can share an internet connection through a non-wireless router and save half the price. Our RCC (the computer tech people hired to live in the dorms) even helped us configure it.

If you want to double check, you can email ResTech:
