Does anyone have experience with those schools' merit aid? Please post your stats. Also, if anyone has experience in Rowan's film dept, please tell me how it is. Also their vocal music department. Thanks so much!

Tanya, as you live in NJ, I'm sure you are aware of the budget crisis & its impact on higher ed. It's almost impossible to predict how stable any merit offers & funding for various programs will be at any NJ public colleges.

Yea, unfortunately it's very hard to plan without knowing. Oh well, we're in the same boat as everyone else out there.....thanks!

I've heard good things about Rowan's TV and media program, but do you mean that or film studies? I've seen an instrumental music major rave about the music program in an onlne forum.
Once it's later in the year I'd call the financial aid offices at TCNJ and Rowan to ask them about this past year's FA offers. There is no longer a formula but I'd assume they have a rough idea.
My assumption is that if they give $ to the top 10% of applicants, you would still find a higher SAT at TCNJ than in the group applying to Rowan. If you qualify to TCNJ and like it - students do seem happier there overall.
Monmouth, being a private school, is less affected. My dd filled out an online form with her SAT and GPA and got a letter telling her the amount of merit she would qualify to receive. Just a statement, NOT an offer of course.
Monmouth has some great things going on, but is way more $ than a state school, has serious housing issues for upper grades and is rumored to have too many students who are beemer driving, prada buying types.

As you know TCNJ is the better school out of the three you mentioned, however you are interested in a very specialized field, and I don't know about these particular programs- so Rowan , even Monmouth may have an edge there.

Are you an accepted Senior trying to make a decision or a Junior?
If you are a Junior, hopefully you will be able to visit each school- and, meet profs in those areas of interest. Hope this helps.

My D is a junior, and for the film (production) I think Rowan beats the other two. There is a strong vocal program there, if I am reading online info correctly...but that's what I have you guys for! Monmouth is very pretty and will give aid, but only to reduce it's tuition by about enough for it to be around the same as a state school. ($10--15K seems about what they offer) TCNJ is getting so selective that getting in there is a crapshoot for almost anyone now. I don't know if they have a good vocal program, and I know that their 'film' dept is more a 'mixed media' studies kind of thing. Anyone have any info on that?

Time to revive this thread, and add Advertising to it. Anyone know about that as a major in NJ? Especially state schools? How about state schools with Film/video production?

I don’t know about advertising, but I can tell you that TCNJ has gone back to a by the numbers system for merit aid. Last year they required an essay and did not have a rank/SAT= $$$ table on their website. It’s not quite as generous as it once was but it is possible to get full tuition covered. No more free room and board and laptop stipend being offered.

My daughter was accepted at Monmouth last year with a 12500 merit package. What are your scores?

The problem with Monmouth is exactly as oldinnewjersey mentioned about housing. I think that whatever you get in merit aid will be offset by needing off campus housing, and really needing a car to get to campus. The beach is beautiful, but the nice weather is short lived during the school year.

Does Ramapo College have a program for film? Vocal music department?

The theater school to attend is Montclair. I gues it’s a natural for reason of its proximity to NYC,

Yea, I’ve heard that Montclair’s theater is getting good. But my D does not want theater; she wants film/video and advertising. And vocal and French…lol. It’s narrowing down to Rowan, Marist and Quinnipiac. Her scores are 1860 and around a 3.4-3.5. She was considering Monmouth but they don’t have what she wants. There aren’t lots of schools that offer advertising as a major.
