@MaCmiracle yes we were very surprised, it was 60K in total, 15K each year… Now if only he would want to attend.
@mags425 What are his reservations about attending? Do your finances allow for him to attend any school he wishes without concern for debt?
If there is any information I could provide you with, as a parent of two students at Rowan now, I’d be happy to do it. My kids love it there.
@NJRoadie My daughter is a 2014 graduate, and secured a teaching position in a highly regarded middle school in North Jersey, right after graduation, she is still there an loves it. Her 1st 2 years at Rowan she liked it and soon became board with the surroundings and location, and just could not wait to finish. My son would like a school that has sports teams that you would want to watch play (rah rah). He was accepted to a few, but now I think the thought of going that far, but be holding him back. I know this is only a portion of school, but you also need to like where you are, and I am not sure if Rowan can do that. We will visit again, and hopefully he will make the right decision. Money wise, I would love for him to go to Rowan
@mags425 I hope you enjoy your visit! While the sports team situation has not changed, the overall campus has grown and changed significantly in the 4 years since your daughter graduated, and from the looks of it, will continue to do so in the coming years. He may also want to look into how to use the NJ Transit bus to Philly as that would open endless opportunities for pro sports and all kinds of stuff to do.
I agree that you need to like where you are - I think that for some schools it takes more exploration and work to find the cool stuff than at others where it falls more easily into your lap!
Best of luck!
Accepted into Rowan, found out last night. Program: Computer Science
Perks: Lua + HTML Programmer(Intermediate), Clubs, and Community Service.
@nikolateslaxi
Congrats!
What were your stats and did what did you get for merit aid, if anything?
1200 SAT
3.3 W most recent GPA
The letter I received had nothing stating merit aid so I’m assuming I got nothing? @NJRoadie
@nikolateslaxi
Unfortunately your scores are below the range for the merit aid.
Are you and your family ok financially to pay without accruing huge loan debt?
Keeping your loans down to the minimum is really important. If you have college savings, make sure it will cover all 4 years, and then make sure you graduate in 4 years! (the extra time is not free )
Living on campus at a four year school is a dream many families have, but in my opinion it is much better to commute, or start at community college and commute rather than end up with a decade or more of $1,000 a month payments, especially if your family wasn’t able to save any money in the first place. It is unlikely they will suddenly be able to handle those payments, and they aren’t something you just ditch in a bankruptcy (you can’t).
I don’t want to be Donnie Downer over here, I just want to make sure you’ve honestly and openly talked with your parents about costs and financing. Many parents of my generation went to college when you could work during the summer and a part time job during the school year and afford to pay the costs on that. They may not realize this is not the case anymore.
Best of luck!
@nikolateslaxi I was notified of my merit award through email a few days after receiving the physical acceptance letter.
