Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland

Any thoughts about RCSI's 6-year program?

Excellent program - well respected, but in Ireland it is thought of as the school that Irish students go to if they are not smart enough to get into TCD or UCD and their parents have the money to pay for tuition. There are alot of non-Irish students at RCSI. Have you considered Trinity?

Thanks for your reply, MagsMom. I've considered Trinity, but I believe they only have a 5-year program for college graduates. UCD and RCSI are the only Irish medical schools that offer a 6-year program for high school graduates.

No Trinity does have a 6 year program - most american students are allowed to receive credit for the first year since most have taken pre med courses that Trinity does in first year. All three - Trinity, UCD, and RCSI are very well respected and you should have zero trouble passing your USMLE graduating from any of these schools. Let mw know if you have any specific questions about Trinity. I also know a little about RCSI.

Oh - just re-read your post. I think you are correct. I believe that TCD does require at least some previous college if you are not Irish. Sorry

i was searching on medical schools in ireland too. but the tuition for RCSI is really expensive -its about $40,000. do you know if they offer scholarships or anything?
magsmom: did you go to a foreign medical school? and which one? how was the curriculum? how did you do in the residency?
