I received and email from Albany Medical College to fill out an application for the physician-scientist program, but when I entered the login info, I could not access the application. If anyone else got access to the app, do you mind telling what the essay questions are so that I could start thinking about them. I left a message for the admissions office but they won't be open till tomorrow morning and I don't want to wait too long, seeing that the deadline is january 17! Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

Same problem Would also like to know…

There is another application to RPI’s Physician Scientist program? I thought you just had to apply by November 1 and they would email you about an interview?

@hello Yes, after RPI looks at it they forward in to AMC for review, and they make you fill out an app and pay $110. The questions are pretty straight forward - it started working for me :). Why this program, describe yourself, lab/health experience…

This is one of the essays:

The Accelerated Physician-Scientist Program educates future physicians to be research- scientist physicians. Please state why you are applying to this program and what uniquely qualifies you for the special focus of this program?(I believe ~250 words)

Thanks guys! It just started working for me too! I’m not sure why it wasn’t before…

By the way, does anyone know the difference between an “Extracurricular Activity” and a “Non-Health Related Experience?” I am slightly confused :/

Experience is not a regular thing so for extracurricular activities I put clubs, sports, etc. for non-health related experience, I put congressional district office internship because it’s more of a one-time thing.

The other question I had (not sure if it’s still there) was Describe Yourself (1000 characters)

I applied for AMC last year(and am now in one of their programs) and for the describe yourself portion, I focused on one thing about myself(cross-country running and what that says about my character etc.), which made for a more effective short essay.

Also, for non-health related experience I think it doesn’t have to be a one-time thing. I wrote about a club that was strongly involved in.

(I am not positive I am right here, but I don’t think I was penalized in any way for not writing about a one-time experience)

yea I think a non health related experience can be anything that doesn’t include hospital volunteering, shadowing, etc…but I agree that clubs are more extracurricular

Does anyone know if they get the common app essay? If not then I just want to use the essay I used on the common app RPI Supplement for the first question!

Also for the hours do we put in all the hours in all?

I think they do get the common app essay because Rensselaer says they forwarded to the application to them. I wrote all-new essays for the AMC application.

where did it say that?

They get the common app/supplement that you submitted for RPI. At my interview last year my interviewer asked me specific questions about my common app essay and also questioned something that I wrote in a supplemental short essay for the college.

Don’t reuse something that was in your RPI supplement.

Should I freak out If I did not hear anything from them yet. I applied on October 31.

No I think they are still sending out applications. I got mine last week so don’t panic just yet!

Just so you know, I had my interview today and everyone got just one interview since they didn’t have enough staff and had a lot of applicants this year.
