@joedoe I’m curious about your statement that WPI grads could not compete with RPI grads. In what sense? Engineering problem solving? Salary? Career advancement? Math competitions? I honestly don’t know what you are trying to say here.
@VMT I think joedoe may just be having a little fun with schools that are often rivals…as far as I can tell there are a number of schools that are all very similar in terms of their very high quality STEM program focus while being small schools. Our son has applied to a number of them including Lehigh,WPI (his top two picks), RPI, Lafayette, Case Western. Each seem to have a slightly different value proposition and culture. Comparing as better/worse seems odd to me, like comparing Champagne and Prosecco. I prefer Prosecco, but then my husband is very Italian.
@chel17 I appreciate that someone picked up on the rivalries. It honestly has to do more with sports than anything else though. Clarkson kicked our butts this year in hockey so we’re all still getting over that haha. RPI, Union, and Clarkson especially have a very intense sports rivalry due to proximity. Go to a hockey game at any one of these schools and you’ll hear more swears than from the mouth of a truck driver. I’m not quite sure where the WPI versus RPI one came from. Overall, I would agree with your statements though. Good luck to your son! All excellent schools!
