Which to choose? Probable concentration is civil engineering and/or engineering/management (Love that IBE program). Out of pocket cost (meaning after scholarships and grants, but not counting any loans) is
$35,000 for RPI (but appeal is pending)
$17,000 for Clarkson
$38,000 for Lehigh

Are RPI and Lehigh really worth the extra money??? Is Clarkson/Potsdam really that desolate? Can anybody help me narrow my options?

My younger S had Lehigh IBE and RPI, and chose IBE (we already paid his deposit). But Lehigh gave him a much better package than RPI which helped make the choice (he liked Lehigh better anyway).

You really need to visit Clarkson yourself to decide if it is too desolate for YOU. How far upstate do you live now?

wow. such similar choices! maybe we should appeal our aid award at lehigh? was your package generous with grants or was it in large part loans?
we have been to clarkson. three times. the outing club seems really cool and the new student center is a welcome addition. but i just don’t know how “traditional” a college experience it is…

Lehigh gave my younger son about $10K more in grant aid than RPI did.

I lived for many years in the Utica/Rome area. I worked as a software engineer in the area and worked with a number of Clarkson grads. None of them indicated that they didn’t enjoy their experience there. For whatever that is worth :)

It would be hard to turn down Clarkson with that package, though.

Thanks for the info. Anybody else have an opinion?
