Hey everyone, so I enrolled into NEU for this year, but recently was contacted with an update in my financial aid by RPI and they told me if i'd like to reconsider I can. Both schools now cost the same and I don't know which one to pick. I am going to be an engineering major so if you can, please tell me which one you would say is better and why (and try to give good and bad aspects please)

Thank you :),

so, I know RPI has a really good academic and research depatrment, but it is in not such a great and exciting place for a college, but if i go there I’d end up going to grad school and be prepared for it and stuff since RPI has good research and stuff, while NEU is in a great college location and has the best Co-op program, but has bad research and I’d ultimately end up going into the working force after my undergrad…

So basically, for a college experience which school would be best, and for the working force what would be best? RPI then grad school for engineering then going to the working force with a high level degree, or NEU and their great co-op program?

Who says Northeastern Engineering has “bad research”?

well, i mean with respect to RPI’s engineering research. It isn’t that it is bad or anything just not as good might be a better wording

Just because a school has research doesn’t mean you’ll be able to do it. Be careful about things like that, because often a school will tote about all the research their faculty is doing- but thats all for grad students. Not all schools allow undergrads to participate, and even the ones that do have competitive jobs for it.

At NEU Parent Weekend, we attended a cool presentation about research being done for airport security (scanners etc). Very interesting.

OP - Part of your decision could be based on the type of college environment you want. At RPI, the students will be mostly STEM students. That could be good or bad depending on the student.
