I'm from NJ and Ive been accepted to both RPI and University of Pittsburgh and would have to pay around the same for each school with financial aid. I'm planning on majoring in applied mathematics and probably economics but am having trouble choosing a school so I'd just like to hear your opinions. What school do you think would prepare you for a career better? Where do you think you would get a better education and better internships/coops? Would it be better to attend one school if you want to go to a top ranked grad school? Thank you for your help!

It’s atmosphere that really makes the difference here. The academic atmosphere is very intense at RPI. If that is what you like, you’ll be in good company. A lot of HPY material here that would be there if there were more seats. If you want the most intensive experience in those disciplines that are your intended majors, RPI is the place to be.

Pitt is bigger and more varied in types. Yes, you get the cream of the crop there, but this is a big school. Oakland area is a college town and Pitt seems to rule there. If you change your mind in majors, you have a much better spread here.
