Rsi 2007

Designing the power systems for the Mars Gravity BioSatellite

State statistics you have here is outdated. 6 people from Idaho not 2 :).

So.. just cause I'm still freaking out about it... there is nothing any of us can do to improve our chances now that applications are in? and contacting CEE would probably, if anything, reflect negatively upon us?

sigh .. I wish they knew how much I want to go; I was so out of it (tired .. not intoxicated or anything like that) when I finally found time to do the essay(s), I don't feel like they well reflect that (plus I have found out more about it since then, and everything I learn makes me want to go more). Although, its not like magnitude of desire to go is even a true criterion for selection.

There have been 6 from Idaho?? What years? All I know of is one from 2004 and 2 from 2006.

i guess the only way to absolutely secure a spot is to slip in some green

yes, i can tell you exactly what to do to get in. 100% guaranteed acceptance. just twelve easy payments of $39.95 :P

I still don't think anyone has answered this definitively:--if the application was sent before any SAT scores were in (Son took them in Jan. for the first time) should he send them in? His app does look a little light compared to other RSI-wannabes because of our HS's crazy AP policies. SAT's were really good--would it help or hinder? And if the answer is help--then how would you send them?

because the deadline is already past, who knows...?

PA Governor's School does not allow applicants to send additional materials after the deadline.

Summer Science Program accepts materials and information after the deadline.

but RSI????

Siusplau,
The problem is that no one here knows whether you can send things in late or not. I doubt it would hurt if he sent an update, although it may be too late to help. He could email the scores to Aliona Dameron, Program Assistant at adameron@cee.org. He could also ask if he can fax the official score report.

I don't know about SAT scores, but here is an email I sent and the reply

Dear RSI administrator,

Hello. This is a RSI 2007 applicant. I have a quick question about my transcript. It seems like all materials should be in the admissions office by February 9th. The transcript for my 1st semester for the junior year comes out on the 9th. My updated transcript shows huge improvements especially in the math and the sciences. After I send in the transcripts up until my sophomore year to meet the deadline, do you accept updated 2nd transcripts once the deadline is over? Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Sam Jang

Yes, as long as you send it promptly.

Thanks everyone--I guess he'll propably just leave it as is. After all, the official score report doestn't come until March, and that will definitely be too late. He'll be able to send his scores to the other summer programs he's applying to. What will be, will be. Anyway, MIT is one of the schools he had College Board send his scores to--maybe paths will cross! :)

Any RSI applicants take the Feb ACT?

Our scores should be online in like 2.5 days! WOO

Yep...I did!

I did (although I'm a TASPer, not from RSI.)

The math section killed me but I feel very very confident about all the other sections, especially the science and essay.

Hopefully, the bad math score I get will be averaged out of the combined...

i'm guessing it will probably be a bit messy, with all that new paperwork. if we send in the updated materials (transcript, SAT scores...without a report >_<), our applications would have to be shifted for in those huge piles of 1000+ applicants, the new stuff attached, and like what over30 said, it might be too late. oh well, i guess

did anyone here take the jan SAT?

I like SAT better, because for some reason, I suck at science

question:
i was sick when i took the psats, and only got a 1990 (610m, 690r,690w). Does anyone know if im automatically rejected because of this? im just not one for tests anyway; my sats were 2040 (640m,680r,720w)
my other info:
4.00 freshman
4.29 sophomore (ap bio-3 ap gov-5)
4.57 junior (ap compsci, ap world history, ap physics b, ap lang)
i dont have any b's on my record
i have also taught myself calculus and will be taking the ap exam this may
my recommendations were from my chem, physics, and math teachers; all were very good. my only experience in my field of interest is work with the astronomical society in my town.

also, does anyone know if astrophysics is a popular choice of research? and if it is not common, does that help my chances at all? do they take interests into account to make the program more "balanced"?

I dont like SATs as much as I do ACTs bc I think it is ridiculous to test how much of a dictionary one has memorized.......

just me though.....

i put down astrobiology, then astrophysics, both obviously under astronomy.

whether it is or isnt a popular choice doesnt matter: there'll be open position for high school interns at the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics any day. Usually, their profs come from harvard, MIT, tufts, BU, et al.

thanks,
is it completely unheard of to find someone who was accepted with 1990 psats?
