my postcard came Saturday
my app made it in on time
YAY!

oh yeah
even though I'm in NC now
go MN for making the top 10 for RSI alums

It should be March 31st ... now

siiiiiigh The longer its been since I sent in the application .. the more I want to get in .. and the less I feel like I'm going to

I didn't do a postcard.. but I sent it FedEx and I know it got there on time...

we had a couple astronomy and one cosmology project at '06, and my tutor had a PhD in astrophysics. so it's not common, but it's there.

and about ACT vs SAT (at least my two cents. yell at me if you want): You don't need to have memorized a dictionary to do well on the SAT. There's a reason it's called the "reasoning" test. You can reason your way through it without knowing everything. But ACT verbal was definitely easy, though comparable to the SAT writing. Science was the toughest for me, but again, it's science "reasoning" so you don't need to know anything about science to do well, although with the time constraints, it definitely helps. Math was the easiest section on both.

I've never understood the rage to study vocab lists for the SAT (in its current incarnation). Reading widely should be more than sufficient to develop a strong vocabulary and the skills to decipher meaning within context.

Back when there were analogies, studying vocab was a whole 'nuther story!

to be completely off topic once again:

is there anyone out there who got in with 1990 psats?

i think so. but his/her stats were amazing. there's always a chance.

donaldguy: i think every rickoid on this board shares your sentiments, as march 31st is d-day for college admissions as well. the waiting definitely sucks.

i also included a postcard, but haven't gotten it yet >_< is that a bad thing? (from VA--->NJ)

i agree w/ SpudmanKA...i DID go to SAT prep but DIDN'T spend hours memorizing the dictionary, unlike my friends did, and still did pretty well on the CR (800 whoot!). however, having an expanded vocabulary is still beneficial to YOU :) it helps write sophisticated essays/papers/applications/schoolwork XP

yea, i got an 800 CR, but it doesn't mean i can pull out sexy, hundred-dollar words in the stuff i write. ;-)

I got a 740 on CR .. (missed 5.. surprisingly, to me, they were mostly passage based -_- )

I missed only 1 vocab question (which in retrospect, was stupid). My vocabulary is fairly broad.. but I certainly got right questions with word's I don't/didn't know

I got an 800 as well. I didn't even study for CR, just math. I've been reading intensely since I started, though, so I didn't need to.

Ok...what is "rickoid?" I keep seeing it referenced.

A Rickoid is one who has attended RSI, coined out of respect for Admiral Rickover, the founder.

I see. There's no way I could have figured that one out...

So the popularity of your interest doesn't influence your chances of getting in?

Is your interest big enough to donate $3,000,000?

NO faxes, they hate it.

anybody else get their postcards in the mail yet? and if so, what part of the country are you in?

^ Michigan. They really hate faxes?

EVERYBODY hates faxes. Unless someone ASKS you to fax something, use email, telephone, or postal mail. My adult experience is that sending an unsolicited fax is by far the best way to annoy someone you are communicating with long distance.

But, yes, people keep fax machines in their offices to receive facsimiles of original documents, and if the RSI office asks you to fax them something, do so fearlessly.
