Rsi 2007

just kidding (to post before) i got my postcard today!! :)

phoenix-ayu: i'm from NJ

hahaha! i didnt need to put in a post card because... i can check my bank account and today they withdrew the $30 check so I know for sure my application is safe and sound.

whats with the Please waive the fee thingy? what irony.

sort of a basic form of financial aid based on the honor system.

I received my postcard today. did anyone else get a smiley face? :)

Yeah, my postcard also had a smiley face on it.

I have a couple of questions

1) Everyone was talking about this postcard thing. I looked back into the application and found that an applicant can include a postcard. Not including one doesn't mean anything, right?

2) What's the difference between Siemens, STS, JSHS, and ISEF? It seems like Rickoids enter siemens and sts a lot, but not other competitions. I only new ISEF existed until I went into the RSI website.

3) Are there any <220 PSAT Rickoids?

Thank you all~ I'm competing in JSHS today. Wish me luck!

including one is just so you'll know they received your app. it doesn't mean anything.

to the best of my knowledge, Siemens does not require anything except a research project, and it is open to all US students. STS is open to seniors, and takes into account grades and SAT scores. ISEF involves research projects that start with local fairs, move on to regional fairs, and then end up at national fairs, as opposed to simply submitting research to a committee, which means projects are all lumped together. i don't know of the difference between JSHS and the other competitions, although it seems to be more like Siemens.

Question 3 I can't answer for you, but it's probably yes.

1) Nope
2) Siemens: http://www.siemens-foundation.org/competition/
STS: http://www.sciserv.org/Sts/
JSHS: http://www.jshs.org/
ISEF: http://www.sciserv.org/isef/

Basically, Siemens and STS projects are sent directly to the competition, while ISEF and JSHS projects undergo local fairs to reach nationals. Siemens and STS don't allow oral presentations unless you've made it to nationals.

3) Not that I know of this year, but in past years, yes.

GOod luck!

I didn't get a smiley face... : ( I hope that doesn't mean something.

Oh do not worry about smiley. This only means that the person who opened your envelope does not draw smiley faces.

1) no

2) prior to rsi, i did ISEF once. one of the reasons rsi is open to juniors only is because they want to give you a project to compete at the many science fairs avaliable to seniors only, mainly sts and siemens (individual). i did jshs as well this year. i used the same project for sts, siemens, and jshs, so that turned out well.

3) yes, i know of two 06'ers

hmmm, i never did the postcard thing. No smiley for me.....

i guess it was good, cuz after sending off the app, i ceased worrying about it until i got my letter.

and THEN i learned about CC and all the worrying that people do on here.

and here i am.

good times.

lol, when I asked the guidance office for a transcript, I seemed so worried that the secretary emailed cee for me. Much quicker than a postcard :)

did anyone receive the postcard yet? i haven't, and it's kinda freakin me out.

haha kyle, i've been on here forever. i had the 3rd highest number of posts in the rsi 2006 thread. :D

make sure your check was cashed. if not, call or email and then you can be worried. not now.

I just got back from JSHS.
2nd place regional - next stop = Nationals @ Alabama!
yyaaay

is it competitive in wisconsin?

Not really...
Science Fairs are much more competitive than JSHS.
I have to admit that I could only do well with my project in Wisconsin.

i know what you mean, i used to live in kansas lol

alohasam89: congrats! you did great at JSHS, and you shouldn't say that you only made it to nationals because you're from wisconsin. many top placing projects at sts and isef are from states that aren't know for science. sometimes a great research from wisconsin is harder to accomplish than one in new york because the oppurtunities are less.
