Rsi 2007

^ shyeah

i like donaldguy's essay :)
i was kind of thinking about the nobel prize thing too... probably should have put more detailed info about it but oh well, couldn't elaborate as much i would have liked due to the 3 page limit

haha Rainalai. i know... that passage was so weird. you're lucky you got 2 picture prompts!!! we only got one--of an old lady and man on a swing >_< and then 2 persuasive essays :(

Oh, wow, now I do feel lucky! Persuasive essays are definitely worse than picture promts. We only got the persuasive essay about Congress passing a law banning video games. Oh man, I went on a huge rant for that one, saying how it would violate our constitutional rights, destroy our entertainment sector, and take away creative thinking skills without video games, haha. Most of it was bs though... I doubt the person reading my essay with understand half the game names I couldn't help but put in as examples ^^

I remember when I was first done writing my RSI apps, and I tried squeezing it into three pages. Ah, it wasn't pretty. I had to cut so much out, paraphrase my important points, and still make it sound elegant. I got to the point where I couldn't cut anymore, so I finally stuck to 10 point times new roman with 0.85" margins... poor people who read my app. They probably needed a magnifying glass!

I listed my ECs, then explained a little for each one.

i'm probably the only one with an application that was like, 2 3/4 pages >_< but my things are usually 10 pt, arial font with 0.7-0.9 margins.

i wonder if rsi ever received (or accepted) an application where a person wrote a poem. haha

lets see....

i have always dreamed....
to change the world.
eyes underlined with dark purple circles
from staying up, countless nights
because
that one yeast cell

showed promise

but those same eyes
sparkle with passion.
twinkle when talking about
the latest results

"its coming along...
no definite results yet.
but i KNOW this will work..."

there are always
questions in science
that need to be answered
that need to be solved

i want to find answers
i want to solve.
find that cure.
help those people.
my long term goal
is to discover

because
nothing is every certain in science
there are always ways

:) wow ok hw now XP

def. wrote about 'world peace' :)

mine was but 2 1/8 pages .. 12 pt .. 0.79" margins

if you haven't surmised from my other posts, I got so bogged down with other things that it got done Wednesday starting at 11:30 and FedEx'd out on Thursday ... so its pretty weak (which despite the fact that I'm from VB, does not it this context mean funny (not sure if anywhere else has adopted that yet))

my recommendations should be pretty strong though, and I'm sure I'm not the first overachiever who has ended up writing it while completely exhausted .. hopefully some of them have gotten in

sigh .. I still so want to get it .. but don't really expect to .. I dreamed about getting in last night.. perhaps it was premonition :-) (on the other hand, I dreamed a few days ago that my girlfriend was moving to Turkey and never coming back .. so .. maybe my mind just feels like torturing me (that dream made me wake up very very sad, now its moving on to getting my hopes up).

yea.. so .. SAT's on sat.. anybody else takin' 'em?

For the first question, I wrote somewhere around 200 words. "math" shows up around 50 times.

this is a great thread

donald, im sure you were genuine so its fine

"As I pursue more focused studies in the realm of computer science, I plan to establish a solid foundation in theoretical computing. Later, I will use my knowledge to contribute to the development of artificial intelligence and apply my skills in a broad scope from computer-aided diagnosis to speech recognition, from statistical pattern recognition in economics to assisting political scientists as they juggle the various criteria for finding “fair” political districting. Ultimately, I want to be able to apply computer concepts to a variety of scientific disciplines."

an excerpt. DOes it sound bland? It did ask for goals, so I was flat out realistic.

standardized testing....standardized testing........

anyone else taking the SATs tomarrow?

nay

ISEF preliminary competition tomorrow!

It's so easy to go to ISEF from my region. There is a regional competition, where 5th-12th graders put out projects. Then there is my school competition, because all freshman bio students are required to do one. Ah~ Wisconsin.

Do we find out March 31st or earlier?

Dang. There are only four ISEF spots for all of Southern California. (Los Angeles doesn't do it, just San Diego)

i thought, as long as there are 50 projects, you can have a fair where 2 people are chosen to go to ISEF.

and yeah March 31st. or at least the website says so

^ yeah, but the LA fair doesn't send people to ISEF and San Diego sends four.

can an LA person submit to San Diego...or are we just not included :[

i can't blieve CA only has two fairs.

btw, this thread is dying

idaho doesn't even have a fair. consider yourselves lucky.

the thread will get a boost soon, come acceptances and such.
