RSI program

Son has received an e-mail from Rsi director informing him of his excellent PSAT score (which we do not know) and encouraging him to apply for 2009 program. After researching on web, he is very much interested. Any "inside" info on program?

he actually got invited to sign up????

There is a big thread on RSI in the Summer Programs forum, and this year's is here.

There are several RSI alums who post there (and a few who post here on occasion).

i got invited too
it means nothing

Doesn't RSI invite you to apply if you get a high PSAT score?

Yeah. Pretty sure I got invited, too, back in the day, and I was rejected.

Also on the topic (and this comes up every year): if you get rejected from RSI, it does not mean that you'll get rejected from MIT. I and a LOT of people I know are proof of this.

^^Ducktape is PRRROOOOFFFF of it :P (yah i just liked repeating the obvious)

btw, i have no clue what RSI is but good luck to your son OP

I got a 238 on the PSAT back in the day (I now feel qualified to use this term since it's 3 years ago =p) and likewise received a similar letter.

You'll probably find more info on the main thread but RSI is tremendously competitive (admission rate was about 7% when I applied - could have gone down further by now). Getting good standardized scores is only one piece of the puzzle - I also think that strong research capability or prior research experience is something they also look for.

But anyways, I was a RSI reject too and now am at MIT. Good luck!

And not all RSI attendees get accepted at MIT.

Thanks for the admissions optimism, over 30. I attended RSI 2008 and I did NOT receive an invitation to apply, so anyone out there freaking out because they did not get the letter, there is plenty of hope.

Yeah same here, I didn't even know out about RSI until a friend who got in suggested me to apply.

Also don't forget that RSI has nothing to do with MIT besides being held on its campus. It's not organized by MIT, acceptees aren't selected by an MIT committee or anything, etc.

umm. people on mit forum who don't know rsi.
:O:O:O:O:O

lol. google is everyone's best friend.

Hmm dang, my PSAT score doesnt even qualify me for the "recommended" PSAT score of 220 (although I was only 2 questions PSAT questions away).

I also took the December SAT and if I get a score back that is 2250+ do you think that technically meets the "recommended" score of 220 on the PSAT?

Also what emphasis do they place on other things? Like I have some pretty big national awards and have pretty legit ECs and 3.94+ GPA. Will they put emphasis on those things or will they just see my 213 on PSAT and not even bother to look because it didnt even meet the recommended score.

And also do they superscore PSAT because if they do Ill be very very close to the 220 lol

I had a 214 PSAT and a 2100 SAT and I got in... don't worry too much.
