Alright guys it’s a long story but it screwed up my career. Please understand that English is not my first language.
I’m Asian and a green card holder.
I go to boarding school and my parents work their ass off to pay those school administration scumbags.
We lived in New England before but most of the times Midwest and South.
We can afford full tuition but again, my parents have to work their ass off. They are doctors but they are not like those doctors employed by the Feds or works in a Gray’s anatomy hospital New York City who make $200K per year.
It’s not a top ranking school and it is located at literally middle of nowhere in the Twin States New England.
There are no cities within 70miles from this area. Half an hour ride to get to the grocery chains.
So this school does not give out A’s easily and the worst part is I match more to the public school system. I went to the public school in Florida and I had a wonderful middle school life enjoying FL sunshine. I was flying in academics. It was great. Really.
My nightmare started once I entered this private school in New England and I got 2.8 cumulative gpa.
I mean I’m not smart enough to handle that huge change of environment. I’m not a math genius Asian. I’ll give you that.
I got 1360 SAT (600Eng, 760M) and 770 Math level 2-this year. Yea it’s like a one single test that brings you to college. I admit that I’m not good at playing the long game of gpa but I swear this school has problem too.
I dropped out of precal honors last year. the teacher was just literally copying exactly what it says on the textbook which was funny. I still got that score on the math level 2. Yea it means something is wrong.
I’ll stop talking s**ts about the school here.
I don’t know guys but I want to go to those big schools like Wisconsin and Illinois. I want a school completely opposite from this school meaning public school system with big city and large number of students. I don’t match to private schools and I feel bad for my parents who afforded it. I want to go to the big city because I am sick of being in middle of nowhere. I live in a middle-class city in the midwest and my town has way more stores and commodities than here. I don’t think it’s considered as a middle class city either.
I am currently checking in with psychiatrist at home and I take prescribed medications. I messed up relationships with other people here and this is an isolated community at some tundra. It makes me sick.
The college counseling in this school is terrible. I talked with the counselor and he barely said no to any of my questions about the chances getting in. It is weird and I can prove that by seeing less than ten people getting into to the top 80 schools each year. A lot of the students did not get into school they deserve. Most of them go to the local state university or those colleges who send out promo emails.
The teachers are like “what are you going to do when you go to school in big city?” which made me think I’m too tired to answer the question.
I’m not going to explain this a lot but I feel like I am a soldier stuck in a fortress at mountain, under siege.
I’m begging to the god with my heart to get me out of this horrible school in mountains.
What do you want from this forum? Do you have an actual question?
What grade are you in?
First of all I think that you need to discuss this with your psychologist or psychiatrist and with your parents. You might need to first discuss this with a therapist and then have a meeting with your therapist and your parents together. Your parents are going to need to agree with whatever you do in the short term. Once you turn 18 it gets a bit more complex but having parents agree is still going to make things much easier.
If your parents agree then you should be able to switch to your public high school where you live. A lot of students do very well at their public high schools, and at their local in-state public universities. There are also some academically very good lower stress and more supportive private high schools in the US (such as Waldorf high schools) but I don’t know what is available in your area.
As a green card holder you are a permanent resident of the US. From an educational point of view you have the same rights and opportunities as any other American student (you don’t get to vote but that doesn’t impact your education).
A lot of students want to go to the most “prestigious” high school or (more often) university that they can get into. However, this also means going to the most stressful and academically difficult school that they can get into. Many students also try to take the most difficult classes that they can take (such as many APs). For many students this is NOT a good idea. It definitely is not needed to get ahead and be successful in the US. Over stressing our students often leads to students having very significant stress related problems, sometimes involving bad grades or serious illness (or both). Students and their parents need to find the schools that are a good fit for them. A lot of Americans and immigrants have not figured this out yet. You and your parents if you can should watch the movie “race to nowhere”. It is probably available on-line.
I know people who messed up high school worse than you and ended up doing very well. Some went to an okay university for four years, did very well there, and then did graduate school at top universities. Some went to community college or an okay university for one or two years, got straight A’s and then transferred to a very top university. One or two lost a year along the way, but did not mess up their careers.
And for now, you need to get some sleep (as do I).
It sounds like you do not want to tell your parents how you feel–is that correct? If that is the case, perhaps they can meet you with the school psychiatrist to help them understand fully. Also, I think, you are saying that college prestige is important to your parents and they may not like the idea of you going to a state school? There are many prestigious state schools that I believe you can realistically consider–be open to all the major options, that will help.
Does your school report weighted GPA? If they report weighed GPA and do not report rank you may be fine. Or–can you take AP Calc self study and have the test result added to your school transcript? It sounds like you know the material as proven by the SAT Math 2 score.
“I messed up relationships with other people here and this is an isolated community at some tundra.”
What happened?
In what state are your parents living now?
@CheddarcheeseMN Iowa.
Go to public school if you don’t like your boarding school. Students leave all the time for a variety of reasons. Any decision you make as a teen isn’t going to mess up your life.
You need to talk to your advisor and don’t muddy the waters with the inadequate shopping and the living in the wilderness thing. You and every BS student on the planet. Those things really don’t matter right now anyway - including the administration “scumbags” … Interesting choice of words… but I’d leave that one alone, too.
Your overall physical and mental wellness is what matters most right now so I would set up a meeting pronto. Relationship problems and college angst all get sorted out at the end of the day… Talk to your advisor before this one ends.
I got past “scumbag” and to the second “a$$” , then stopped reading.
Teenager feeling depressed, pained, and trapped. I cut him some slack on the word choice and hyperbole.
