Brook Ghost wearers. They are 35% off. I saw an ad on Facebook for brooks.com, but I went to my usual runningwarehouse site and they were 35% off there as well. Runningwarehouse also has free shipping BTW.
Oh these are the ghost 14s. But they still had plenty of sizes and colors available
Does anybody snowshoe when it’s too cold to walk? If yes, any recommendations for where to buy or order a simple/inexpensive pair? It may be time for me to switch from cross country to snowshoes, which would get more use around here.
THE BACK STORY - Normally I’d head to lake trail after a snowfall with my ancient (38 year old) cross country skis… not waiting too long, since snow melts quickly in CO. The XC equip was nothing fancy, but they worked OK. \Today we had almost a foot of snow, and since the town does not plow our neighborhood it was a grand opportunity to XC ski the streets. Until I fell when pushing off after stopped for a conversation with a friendly dog owner. My “quick release” protection was the plastic base separating from the leather boot. Oops. Had to walk home (though the nice dog owner offered to drive me).
To keep moving, you can run, walk, bike, hike… or dance. Loved a reel/video I saw today of 86 year old in a dance exercise class. Alas, the link didn’t work as expected. But it did make me think of this thread.
I just bought an indoor training bike. It was a great deal and came with a free year subscription to Zwift. It’s like playing a Mario Brothers game. I have an avatar and race against other people. The bike provides resistance so you feel like you’re going up and down hills. There are different courses every day. I’ve been biking through France. It’s really cool and makes exercising fun.
I found a trainer I really like. I’ve been doing more strength training but it’s really been helping my running. He specializes in working with individuals 50 and up. It’s been great being able to progress to exercises I thought I’d never be able to do.
I’m registered for a big race this fall that I’m planning on using walk:run intervals for. The goal is to train smart, stay healthy and injury free, and finish.
That’s great. I found a gym whose clients are mainly older women. I work out with one to three other women. Our trainer is awesome. He’s adapting exercises that I can do with my broken wrist.
It’s been an unusually cold, snowy winter in Colorado. Although I ran twice in past week, before the artic temps descended, mostly I have had to do walking and inside exercise (and admittedly not much of it).
I did stop at the senior center this week to check out their options. I’m not old enough for free SilverSneakers classes, but I could do drop-in for $5.50/class. The yoga was all standing/sitting… I’d do it if hubby with bad back (and Medicare/free class) were interested. He’s not interested, so I’m thinking about the Zumba Gold class I saw afterwards. I did that years ago at rec center and like it ok (if I could be at the back of the class, where my clutziness was less obvious).
I went on a 17.5-mile bike ride on Zwift the other day. 14 miles this morning in 61 minutes. I’m starting to think it might be fun to rent ebikes in Normandy this summer. I have four months to train.
I’m starting over with my left arm due to my broken wrist. It’s weird to have one arm weaker than the other. I still can’t put much weight on my injured arm.
Refound this thread. Yes we snowshoe - never liked cross country that much and downhill is just out now. Years ago I got my snowshoes from Sam’s and it works just fine along with a set of poles.
I don’t belong to Sam’s now but I do belong to Costco and just got their 2 paddle pickle ball set and am starting to learn how to play. Most of our exercise is walking daily outside around 3.5 miles and weight training at home. Hiking on the weekends. We try to run in brief spurts during our walks to keep the dog interested. The unusually cold and rainy/snowy winter has really limited our time outside. Being retired has helped to pick the time of day to go outside by the weather app. I never paid so much attention to it as I do now.
I think it’s really interesting to see how exercise habits change/evolve as we age. I never thought I’d enjoy strength training but I just needed to train with the right person.
This morning I used one of the non motorized treadmills at the gym. I did 10 30/30 sprints, walked for 8 minutes then repeated. My sprints aren’t that fast, but it was a fun workout.
I rode my bike virtually with another woman a couple of days ago and was happy that I had to keep slowing down so she could stay up with me. That’s a rare occurrence!
