Rural Inferiors! (SAT)

I was recently at an interview for a top LAC and the admissions officer was surprised that I had (quote) "such a high SAT score for a student from a rural high school." He proceeded to tell me that rural kids usually score 100 points lower than everyone else.

Is this true? And will my SAT scores (720,740,690) help me get in to elite schools?

Hahah…not sure. I attend a school in Elkhorn, Nebraska. Its not really rural, but its smaller and there are farms pritty close by. I scored well on my SATs (2340)…but maybe.

The admissions officer’s generalization is probably more a spur of the moment thing based on being impressed by you; I doubt the mean gap would be 100 points.
As to your second question, it depends on which “elite schools” you are referring to. The 690 is a bit low for the most highly selective schools, though 2150 is all right on the whole - 2150 however, is too low to “help” you, as many other applicants will likely have higher…

Ya you’re probably right ephemeral… Just thought it was an interesting comment.
