When does rush start and what is it like?

All I've heard is that WashU, for sororities at least, has deferred rush, so it's not until we come back from winter break.

yeah, sorority rush occurs during the last week of winter break, the week before the second semester starts. there is fall fraternity rush but thats only for non-freshmen, freshmen can rush fraternities in january/frebruary.

I looked at my sorority's website to see when recommendations are due - and it says by December. I'll probably send a rec in for my daughter in September. When I was in school, a rec basically meant that the girl was invited back through informals without being discussed, or cut. It gave more time for the girl's in the house to meet the girl. Or... as I think about it, maybe that was for a legacy (daughter or grandaughter) and the girls with recs were automatically asked back for fewer nights. I don't remember. Anyone on campus know the rules? If I send a rec for my daughter is it a good thing? I wouldn't be like the mothers from Texas who used to send us flowers and cookies with notes to remember their daughters! I was a KKG, what is that house like at Wash U??
