Rutgers Internet

What do I need to be connected to the internet? An ethernet cord or is it all wireless?

Do I need to bring my own router for anything,

is the internet fast in general?

Im in davidson if it matters.

Wireless internet in the lounge, but you will need either a router or an ethernet cable in your rooms. When you first come to Rutgers, you will have to download a RAD server that allows you to connect to Rutgers internet.

You may get wireless internet in your room from time to time, but they are far from decent, so don’t rely on RUWireless in your rooms. The one you will get in the lounge is fast enough.

the RAD thing you said you have to download, does it have to be done multiple times? When i was at rutgers over the summer once i used my laptop to download the RU wireless stuff and went through the registration and was able to connect to RUWireless, in murray hall on college ave. Will i have to do it again for different locations?

wait so I cant use the internet without an ethernet port on my laptop?

@NewToRutgers, That’s correct. The only exception is when you have your own router in your room…or you may have to go to the lounge every time you want to use the internet. Welcome to college.

@rgomes1220, My guess is you only have to download it once, because once you download it, it’s on your computer.

Davidson Hall was actually recently upgraded so that you can get RU Wireless in all of the rooms, not just the lounges, so you have that to look forward to. You will want to still bring an ethernet cable, though, because the wired speed is faster than the wireless one and more reliable.

Barr, Allen, Metzger, Mattia, Davidson, Perry, and Voorhees all now have wireless access throughout the residence halls. The Livingston Quads are also set to have wireless throughout the halls before move in day.

That being said, my son still uses his ethernet cable because he says it’s faster.
