I’m a freshman at Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences. I was considering double majoring in a science and an art at Rutgers, but Mason Gross’s ONLY visual/fine art majors are 1) art and 2) visual arts. I looked at Montclair University’s College of the Arts’ majors and they have “Animation/Illustration” which I’ve always wanted to do.
My question is: which school is better for visual arts? Mason Gross or College of the Arts?
Mason Gross’ visual art program doesn’t seem as well developed as their performing arts programs (or in general really). The classes they offer are very general (i.e. drawing fundamentals, drawing, painting, photography, media, printing, etc–those are the actual names of their classes), and nothing digital. I’m not interested in fine arts.
In addition, how easy is it to get accepted into Montclair University’s College of the Arts? I know I have to build a portfolio to apply. But my GPA after the first semester was a 2.75. After this semester it’ll likely be bumped up to around a 3.00 or above. But I took mainly science and calc courses, so will they really pay attention to that?
