Rutgers Move in2012 Dates??

<p>My son will be a freshman in the School of Engineering this fall and I am trying to find out when students will move in so I can plan a family vacation.</p>

<p>The following is a link to last year's dates, but last year school started on Thursday Sept 1st and this year they start on Tuesday Sept 4th.</p>

<p>I am guessing move in will be no earlier than Monday Aug 27, but I would love to find the actual date.</p>

<p>The move in date for fall 2012 is September 1 although special populations (Douglass Residential College, SAS Honors program) may move in 1, or in some cases 2, days earlier.</p>

<p>Freshmen engineeering students moved in on August 27, 2011 last year and fall semester began on September 1. I’m guessing they usually give students 5 days before the class begin, so if it follows the pattern, the move in date would be somewhere around August 30 for this year.</p>

<p>They don’t announce the move in dates until late June or early July, I believe.</p>

<p>Yes it is likely that Engineering students would move in 1-2 days earlier along with the Douglass Residential College, SAS Honors, and other special populations. August 31 would be my best guess since this is 1 day before all other first-year students move in.</p>

<p>It seems strange to me that the dates are not posted.(I thought I was looking in the wrong place).</p>

<p>I was thinking it would be around the 30th.</p>

<p>Anyone see official updates yet? Does Rutgers have students help with the move in or provide bins to push my stuff in? I see it says I should bring my own hand truck. Sure, what family doesn’t already own their own hand truck?</p>

<p>The official date of move in hasn’t been announed yet but it will most likely be September first. Upper classmen that live on campus volunteer to help move in all of your things. I don’t believe you need to bring your own hand truck, when I volunteered for move in crew they had carts already at all of the residence halls.</p>

<p>I’m a rising sophomore and I applied for Move In Crew this year. The email I received said I move in August 31st and everyone else moves in September 1st, so I’m pretty sure these are official dates.</p>

<p>Last year’s Freshman move-in date of Aug 27 coincided with the arrival of Hurricane Irene and arrival times were moved up (7am for D1s dorm) and everyone got there quite early. </p>

<p>We didn’t receive any help from other students, although lots of them were around, however they spent most time directing traffic (vehicles & people). We do own a handtruck and it came in handy!</p>

<p>My son moved into the BAMM dorms freshman year and there were tons of people helping you move in with big carts. They would also help you carry items in. </p>

<p>We brought along a hand truck and I don’t think we even took it out of the car.</p>

<p>Do upperclassmen get to move in on the same day as the move-in crew?</p>

<p>Possible. I know a sophomore from last year who moved in 2 days earlier than freshmen.</p>

<p>Usually move in crew moves in first, then certain freshmen (like honors), then the rest of the freshmen and then upper classmen. Last year move in was sort of different because of the hurricane.</p>
