September 1st or September 2nd? Also, will transfer students be considered freshman as well?

[Important Dates 2012-2013 - My Housing - Rutgers Housing & Residence Life](Important Dates – Residence Life)

Move in is on Sept 1. I am guessing they will help you move in as you are basically a new student.

Move in is sept 1 for transfers and freshman. Continuing students move in on the 4th :)

@Rualum:Can you please tell me a little about move in day if you dont mind? You said there are people to help you move in? How hectic does it get?? Ive only been to one university…which I only attended for one term and on move in day I literally just walked onto campus and into my building and started moving in. There were no greeters or staff there for guidance. Granted it was the summer when things are very dead but…there werent even any RAs or anything walking around. Im not sure how this experience compares to other universities.

Move in day for freshmen was hectic, but pretty organized. There were a lot of students working on the move-in crew who met you at your car and helped load your stuff into a bin. Then they would all help move it upstairs.

They also had students working to help set up computers. We had problems getting things set up so we called the number provided and someone came over pretty quickly and helped us out.

The biggest problem was where to park our car because they told us to park in a faraway lot. I wouldn’t worry about that though because I can’t see them giving out parking tickets on move-in day.

btw returning students can move in Sept 2 & 3.

Oh, that sounds great! So different than my previous experience! Will they inform me with a specific place to park so I can be met by the move in crew?

P.S–a little off topic but do you think it would be weird or I would look like a loner if I moved in by myself? I prefer to do that type of thing by myself and dont need my family all around me making a big deal and getting all emotional about my first day moving in. I’ve also been on my own for several years so that just feels uneccesary and out of place for me. Do kids typically move in by themselves or do they all come with their parents?

Most freshmen seem to move in with someone helping them, but I don’t see anything wrong with you moving in by yourself. (I actually moved in by myself, >20 years ago).

You can unload your stuff first; leave your car’s hazard lights on while you are unpacking. Then you can go park your car and come back and organize your room.

yea you unload your stuff from your car and then someone goes to park it. There will be a huge presence of police and students directing you which way to go. I would recommend you get there as early as possible. Families usually tend to go towards 10-12 and it is very hectic.

I would try to get there by the time you have to move in and set up your room. And then take your parents to go eat or drive around New Brunswick. I believe no parking tickets are given out that day. Maybe take them to college ave to get some fat sandwiches.

Yeah get there early; Rutgers is all about beating the crowds. You can put the stuff in your room, lock the door, and then go park.

btw even when you want to go to any on-campus event where they have free donuts, or pizza, or whatever, go right when they open before they run out of everything. Seafood night, go early. Free whatever, go early.

It says move in date for Rockoff Hall is August 26th. That only pertains to continuing students, correct? I’m a transfer student, so do I move in September 1st?? or August 26th???
