Hey me too! Where are you from? I don’t have answers to all of these questions but i do have some…

Although they both look great, i have a feeling psu will look “better” any they have amazing job opportunities so there’s no doubt you won’t get a job if you go there

i know the rutgers business school is amazing but i’m not sure about psu’s

I know people that go to rutgers and they LOVE it…it’s a really fun school. The classes are do-able and there truly is something for everyone. It’s right in the middle of a city which can be good and bad. It’s exciting but at the same time safety can be an issue. But no matter who you are you will have the full college experience there.

I have heard that Greek life rules penn state. Like if you’re not in it you won’t have anything to do…which is hardly believable but at the same time it is in the middle of no where. Also, I don’t know if this bothers you but i heard it is very cold at penn state. But the school pride is amazinggggg, there will be SO MANY people to meet, the degree looks so good.

It’s a hard choice because they are both good choices. You should visit each and stay a night to see how you feel there. Hope I helped!

Coming from someone who did a tour of Penn Sate, and has been to Rutgers about 1000 times, PSU is nicer, has better sports, facilities, and isn’t a dirty s*** hole

There is not a huge difference in these schools academically.

Penn State has more name recognition due to huge football program

also, USNWR ranks (FWIW) PSU 47 Rutgers 64 so that puts PSU in the “top 50” category of national universities, which gives it some additional “prestige”

As an in-state student for Rutgers, however, it would be the better value for money.

Oh wow, I’ve also been accepted to Penn State and Rutgers during the summer. I’ve visited both and PSU’s campus is much prettier. It looks like those campuses you see on postcards or magazines.
Rutgers is a city school of course so of course it doesn’t look better. The New Brunswick campus (which I also visited) is kinda spread out. The surrounding city is kinda ghetto-like once you get out of the campus area. Honestly, I didn’t find anything outstanding with Rutgers. Sorry. I’d imagine that the split up campuses would make classes and meeting people a little less convenient.

I’ve already made up my mind that PSU is better. But, it has the higher cost for that.

My parents are both Rutgers alums and were very impressed with Penn State. Rutgers admissions tour was a real turn off…we had a terrible admissions counselor presenting the program. That being said, as a NJ resident, Rutgers will cost far less than Penn State. However, you can’t beat the spirit that I felt at PSU…I didn’t get that same vibe at RU. It seemed that some people at RU think they’re too good for all that school spirit and football stuff.

Tough choices to make in the next few weeks. I’m giving Penn State the edge.

jpstevens, For business school USNWR ranks Smeal 23rd; Rutgers’ business school does not make the top 50. (Rutgers advertises itself as “New Jersey’s #1 Business School”.) Several of Smeal’s programs have top ten rankings.

i hardly doubt greek life dominates penn state. If anything, greek life is pretty non existent because there are so many kids that go there. And it is in the middle of no where, but anything you could want is in the town of State College. Only reason I probably wont go to PSU is because of the class sizes. But youll get the same thing at Rutgers

I’m an in state NJ resident. Got accepted to Rutgers NB and PSU UP.

I didn’t even need to visit Rutgers. Everyone I know is going to Rutgers only because it is an in-state school so it will cost them less. Everyone I know that goes there isn’t exactly a die-hard Rutgers fan. Heck, the only reason one of my friends is even going is for their Pharmacy program.

Penn State just seems to have more school spirit. I’ve never met a person yet who was not happy they went to Penn State, even if it wasn’t University Park. From all the pictures I’ve seen of Rutgers it seems like the pits compared to Penn State.

For most programs, I believe Penn State and Rutgers are equivalent. I’d save the $80K, and go to Rutgers. Also, if you are expecting any New Jersey state financial aid, I don’t believe that can be used outside of New Jersey.

P.S. - If you really want to go to Law School or other grad school, it is best to minimize your debt as an undergrad. It will give you much more flexibility in the law school you can afford to attend. There is very little value in going to a no-name law school - they are a waste of time and money.

By the way, Penn State’s Dickinson Law School charges the same tuition for in-state as out of state tuition. They have two campuses - in Carlisle and State College.
