i'm a junior right now and i'm interested in going to Rutgers Pharmacy. My grades are pretty good and I have good Extracurricular activities but...what kind of AP classes should I take so I don't have to take it there if I get accepted...

Right now, I'm taking AP chem, AP stat, and AP US II History...in senior year, i'm definitely taking AP bio, AP Calc BC, and AP Psychology....but i'm not sure what other AP class to take..
(AP english or AP micro/macro economics or AP Modern European History??)

About the part where you said “so I don’t have to take it there if I get accepted” though…unfortunately, Rutgers Pharmacy only allows you to AP out of a maximum of 8 credits. Popular opinion is that Gen Bio is the best one to AP out of (which is what I did, and I definitely think it was a good decision). That’s 8 credits right there (because Gen Bio I and II are 4 credits each). On the other hand, having taken the AP classes before will make your freshman year so much easier.
Intro to Microeconomics is a required course, so if you take AP micro, you can probably skate through it here.
I’d say that AP English is a waste of your time unless you’re truly interested in taking it, because all pharmacy students are required to take two semesters of writing during their freshman year whether they have AP English credit or not.

yea language is not required. You should also look the credits Pharm takes because they do not take a whole lot. Most of the history stuff isnt even in the curriculm for pharm.

Also, taking that many Ap classes is helpful but only to a certain extent. the sciences are important, ap chem and bio. but for pharm you are required only 1 year of calc, with or without the AP class. so in the end you will be taking either calc 1 or calc 2. calc 2 if you use your AP credit.
and for the english Ap exam, you cannot opt out of the Rutgers expos class. It is mandatory. The most the Ap exam will do for you is get you out of taking the placement test for the expos class. (if you do not pass the placement exam you have to take another english class before expos).

You see Pharm is heavily loaded with the sciences, not much of anything else. Also, if you do get 4 or 5 on all of your Ap exams its sometimes not beneficial to take those credits. Like if you opt out of bio 1 then they expect you to know everything. And most likely there are some stuff you are rusty on.
So if you get into pharm its better to not take the credits and just take the class again. you will get an easy A which will help your GPA so you dont get academic probation.

Taking a foreign language isn’t required. The best APs for you to take are AP Bio, AP Chem, and AP Calc. That will make PP1 year really easy for you/help you get a high GPA. AP Psych is nice too, since general psych is required (not that it’s a hard class anyway). Same situation for AP Stat and AP micro.

DEFINITELY take AP Bio. Believe me, you want to get out of gen bio here. That’s the one that matters most. If you were to get a 5 on that and thus AP out of it, that would be it for you (you can AP out of a maximum of 8 credits…Gen Bio I would be 4, and Gen Bio II would be another 4). Even if you don’t get a 4 or 5 in AP Bio though, you can use your AP Chem credits to get out of Gen Chem I and II (assuming that you got a good enough score to AP out). If you really want to take some other exams, my ranking would be:
-either AP Calc or AP Physics (I have no idea about whether you should take B or C though, sorry). You could AP out of either Calc I or Physics…but I’d rather get out of physics because of the lab associated with it. Calc here is really easy. If you decide to take the AP Calc exam, just take AB. BC is overdoing it.

the calculus and chem professors are not bad. Physics and psychology are even easier classes.

AP out of bio, if anything. You will thank yourself when you don’t have to take the class and hear how awful it is from fellow students. Bio lectures are the WORST. The professor actively makes an effort to disadvantage students. PLUS, if you AP out of bio, you also get out of the Bio lab. You don’t get out of the chem lab if you ap out of chem (b/c chem lab is a whole separate course).

AP out of either gen chem or gen bio. i suggest bio, gen bio is killer here. you should also take the AP classes for calc so you’ll have an easy calc 1 A grade.

AP chem does not ap u out of lab. chem 1 and chem 2 are both 4 credit cours which add up to 8.

CHEM lab is called intro to experimentation here, you will have to take this course either way.

So basically it’s the same as the others said.

AP out of gen bio 1 and 2.

Get a strong foundation in calc and physics from HS, dont waste ur money on the AP exams (All of this is based on that you are going to rutgers.)

And AP Lit wont help you at all in expos, thats just if ur a good writer ull get an A or a B. thats it.
