Where is the best campus to live as a theatre major? i heard theres an all girl and all boy campus and there are campuses where parties happen 24/7. as someone attending mason gross where should i dorm?

As a theater major, I’d say Cook/Douglass since most (if not all) of the art related classes are on this campus. Douglass is the all-girls campus, but there are two dorms (I believe Lippincott and New Gibbons) that are co-ed.

Parties are big on College Avenue on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights (taking place in the basements of off-campus houses and frat/sorority houses)

In short, Douglass seems like your best bet since the Mason Gross School is here.

well how far of a walk is college ave if i dorm in cook?

Ooh, walking is a no-no. It’ll probably take you 45 minutes if you walk a good pace. And if you are walking at night, you’ll have to walk on George Street, which is NOT the best place to be wandering on after dark especially if you are inebriated (too many muggings) You’ll have to rely on the buses .

If you want, just sign up for housing on College Avenue if you don’t mind taking the bus a lot to and from Cook/Douglass.

thanks for all of your help. i guess my best bet is to go with cook/douglass. i just hope i get co-ed!

hmm, do you have any advice for a future student?

did you already get acceptance to bfa at mason gross. I thought admits are only going out March 8th

Advice? Sure.

What questions do you have about Rutgers in general? I’ll be glad to answer them to the best of my ability.

oops sorry for the late response! and yes they accepted me two days after my interview.

one question i have is about the busses. do they go to NYC at all or do i have to find my own way to get there? and are they generally on time? Also, are they free?

and also, do people from other housing associate with eachother often?( for example, do Busch kids hang out with College ave kids?)

The train station is near the College Avenue campus near the commercial area of New Brunswick. You have to take the train to NYC.

It cost about $18 round-trip and takes about 75 minutes to arrive at Penn Station in NYC. The trains are generally on time except when the weather is horrible. Sometimes you experience tiny delays from time to time, but generally, the trains arrive at the platform on schedule.

People do tend to become friends first with the people that live in their dorm, but you can make friends with people all over the place – in class, in certain clubs or organization, through mutual friends, on-campus jobs, etc. Being on separated campuses doesn’t have an effect on who you can’t be friends with. And in most cases, you won’t be living on the same campus after the first year unless you choose to.

thanks for all of your help :)
