Rutgers Vs. NYU?

Hi all, I just got accepted into NYU CAS as a first-year transfer student.
However, I'm not sure if I should go; I was hoping you guys could offer your advice.
I'm currently attending Rutgers College (New Brunswick campus) where I have no tuition because my mom is a professor, and I have a $4,000 a year scholarship on top of that. Basically, the idea is that I'm not paying much at all.
If I go to NYU, even with my parents helping me pay for it, I'd take roughly $10,000 a year in loans, for 3 years.
I plan to go to graduate school right after college, as my major is psychology.
Rutgers is ranked 60th, and it's rank is dropping. NYU is ranked 37th, and it's rank is rising. The psychology department is ranked #30th in the nation, the psychology department at Rutgers is considerably lower than #60.

So basically, the question is whether NYU, which offers a somewhat better education, a much more interesting environment, and more opportunities, would be worth taking the loans for versus staying at Rutgers, which is free?
Thanks in advance,
Bill

I chose to come to Rutgers for free over Hopkins, Northwestern, and UVa. It matters what you want to do... I want to go to med school and I can get into a great med school from RU. You can go anywhere you want from RU, but you need to have been involved and get good grades.

However, I don't think that NYU gives a better education than RU. It is in NYC, of course, which is more fun... but you have to evaluate if that fun is worth all that money for you.

....psychology at NYU is ranked 30th?? No way...I heard it was top 3. Psychology is NYU's highest ranked program, from what I heard.

I think that is philosophy

Yea, NYU, Princeton, and Rutgers all hover around the 1st spot for their philosophy departments (they share a lot of professors due to their proximity).

Also-- another comment I wanted to make. I don't think Rutgers' rank is going to be dropping in the future-- I think that with the restructuring of undergrad education @ RU the rank will go up b/c RU will be able to attract better students, but we'll see. I also don't think NYU's rank is rising... it's probably going to stay around 30, but I'm no NYU expert.

Meh, NYU's ranking is hurt a lot by financial aid. After all, Stern is normally top 5, and Tisch is arguably #1, so NYU shouldn't be ranked quite so low at 37

Go to Rutgers...do well....get into a good Grad Program. End of story. It is your grad degree in Psychology that really makes or breaks the deal anyway.

Scarlet, I'm pretty sure they made their decision by now. This post is three months old! ;)
