Uh...where did I say that? Someone else on here said that it measured nothing.

My problem was I did not finish any of the sections.

anangrymailman: If the Sat didn't measure anything it wouldnt be used for college admission..

I am not agreeing or disagreeing but.....
Are you aware of the number of colleges that do not use the SAT for admission?
Each year the list continues to grow........there is thread on CC that names the colleges.....I will try to find if for you....

Eventually using the SAT as a standard test for college admission will change. I wonder what the change will be?

It's fairtest.org

I just finished my very first practice sat literally 10 seconds ago and scored a 1900.
but it was done online and i was distracted so it's okay, my self-esteem has not dropped yet

I'm sorry but I don't like this thread at all. People who say it's "amusing" and "fun" only say so because laughing at the low scores of others feeds their own sense of self-worth. Imagine how someone might feel who actually did get an 1120 on the new SAT's when they chance upon all of the truly insulting and degrading comments on this thread? For example...

kramer3d HOW THE HELL DO SOMEPEOPLE DO SO BAD??? I mean if you just put your info on the test and turn it in BLANK... u get 600! (new SAT)

I don't mean to single you out, kramer3d, but that just isn't right. This thread isn't right.

These "defensive" posts are so amusing...

shows you got a good score on sat...

What is a "good" SAT score and i WILL TELL YOU if i got a good score or not.

1400.

Scooby dooby doo, where are you?

18 on ACT i think I heard, and 880 on SAT

I know Bates (I applied) and other schools don't use the SAT. I'm not saying that the SAT will tell colleges how well a student will do in college (which I think is supposed to be the goal) but it definately does give the college a pretty good idea of ones math and verbal skills.

Bates said that the students with higher SAT scores were not doing better than those will lower scores so they would stop using the SAT in admission. The students with lower scores must have had other things (good grades maybe) to get them into Bates, to make up for their lower SAT. They didn't have a well controlled experiment because the students with lower SATs on average were better in other areas of admission.

LOL. Yep, some who do good in high school and on the SAT may flunk out of college because of too much fun and not enough studying, classes become too hard for them, etc, etc. Then again, someone who did okay in high school and okay or not so hot on the SAT may do better in college. shrugs Maybe seeing the tuition statement perks them up.

uvajoe, did you find out if you got a good score on sat?

No i didn't...missed the curve be 30 pts. :(

Why is there a curve? That is inflation. I thought people on CC hated grade inflation.

No, you said that a "good score" is a 1400, and i scored a 1370(maybe curve wasn't the best word...).

I saw a thread on another board where some said they made a 1320 on the new sat.

hahaha this post is kind of mean...but still funny

The SAT, like any other test, does not tell everything about a student, but it gives an indication. The more tests a college can see, the better picture they get. If you post an 1100 (old SAT), but thrown down a 770, 740, and 800 on the SAT IIs, colleges will take into consideration that perhaps you had a bad day on the saturday of the SAT I. To say that the SAT correlates to nothing however is somewhat ridiculous. It's a test, and a relatively simple one at that. More intelligent and more attentive people will by and large score higher than less intelligent and less attentive people. Does this mean the test will determine your worth in life? No. Does this mean that it is all colleges do or should look at? No. But it still is a valid measure and simply because you didn't score too well doesn't make it useless. Just accept that you were "beat" in this arena, and move on to compete another day. You have plenty of chances to prove yourself to a college, the SAT is but one of them.
