I have an unweighted GPA of 3.4 and a weighted UC GPA of 3.74. My GPA in junior year alone was a stellar 4.65 with 4 APs. Obviously, grades 9 and 10 were a bit of a struggle. I am awaiting my SAT score but I am confident I received at least a 1400/1600. My AP scores are as follows:
-AP Calculus AB: 4
-APUSH: 3 ;(
-AP Lang: 5
-AP Psych: 3
My expected Senior course load:
-AP Calculus BC
-AP Statistics
-AP Lit
-AP Government
-AP Computer Science
-AP Physics
My extracurricular activities are as follows:
-Model UN
-Library Volunteer
-Future Business Leaders of America
-American Red Cross Club
-Wounded Warriors
-Pre-Med Club
-Philosophy Club
-Rec Basketball
-Summer Work @ a grocery store
-Outdoor Adventure Club
Also, I am of Asian Indian dissent and a resident of California. My intended major is either Finance or Economics with a possible double major in Computer Science which I know is extremely difficult. If you guys would be so kind, could you please sort the following colleges into safeties, matches or reaches?
-UCSB
-UC Davis
-Cal Poly SLO (local resident)
-UC Santa Cruz
-Cal State Long Beach (father is an alumni)
-UCR
-UMich (dream school but near impossible ik)
-Ohio State University
Very open to recommendations for non California schools that would offer me a good amount of financial aid. (family of 4 105k/year)
Thanks So Much!
SLO uses 9-11th grades in their GPA calculation, so just add your 9th grades.
Not going to chance until you have your SAT scores. Your GPA will be an issue for UCD/UCSB and SLO and double majors are discouraged at SLO especially combined with CS.
@Gumbymom do you think you can based on my previous score of 1370?
Also, my CPSLO GPA is 3.6 I should’ve mentioned that
So SLO is your local in-service CSU? If so, then you do get priority and can get in for Econ but a long short for CS.
UCSB/UCB: Low Reach (ECON) Reach for CS
SLO: Match (ECON due to local priority) Reach for CS
UCSC: Match for ECON/ High Match for CS
UCR: Match For ECON and CS
CSULB: Match for CS/ Low Match or Safety for ECON
CSU’s and UC’s do not consider legacy so bump there.
I would add SDSU (great finance and very good CS, along with the possibility to double major there).
Not familar with OSU or UMich.
Good Luck.
I am pretty familiar with University of Michigan, and I think that you have accurately assessed your chances there. University of Michigan “considers” your freshman year GPA, but “realizes that there is a time for adjustment during freshman year so if you had a bad freshman year we will overlook it for your sophomore year and junior year”. As for Ohio State, I would call it less of a reach maybe a low reach.
Regarding legacy for CSU’s and UC’s, I meant to say No bump for legacy since it is not considered.
