Safety at Mizzou and Columbia

<p>For any students there, or parents of students, what are your thoughts on safety?</p>

<p>Daughter will be going in the fall. Has probably been a bad idea to follow KOMU, The Columbia Missourian, etc on Twitter, because now I feel like there are a lot of rapes and assaults/robberies. Just read about a rape downtown. There was one also fairly recently at Aspen Heights. An armed robbery at the Reserve. Also heard there were "shots fired" this year at Aspen Heights. </p>

<p>She will be on campus, but this makes me nervous for when she goes off campus?</p>

<p>Try not to worry too much. Our M is now a senior at MIZZOU. We are from the west. I too was one to stream KOMU, read the news online early on, trying to stay in tune with what was happening in Columbia. Over time, that concern faded. Like anywhere one should always be aware, travel in groups at night when off campus, use security when necessary. Our M has never had a problem. Is confident and has felt safe. </p>
