Hey,

I'm looking at U. of Cinci for grad school, I was curious how safe you personally felt on campus and around it?

We inquired about this too. First, Cincinnati is a city school. However, it is probably a bit safer on campus than most other city schools. They have a lot of features that help ensure safety. However, a student still needs to be aware of their surroundings and use common sense.

Off campus is not as safe. Again, they will probably be fine if they use common sense such as not walking off campus at dark alone etc.

thanks alot for the reply.

I'm at a school much the same... looking around, the campus feels very safe, and then you get to the edge, and it's like you're entering a new world.

I don't mean to ask any nonsense questions, if I was to go U. Cinci, how far would safe & affordable housing be away from the campus? Any idea about public transit as well?

It's not a question of distance. There are parts of the campus boundaries that are less safe than others. Students just need to use common sense.

Im A.. - Taxguy is absolutely correct in his replies. I might also add that the surrounding areas are going through a renovation/revitalization of their own that include new retail/professional/ and residential projects. While there last week at orientation we were introduced to over $360 Million in work underway right now. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of space commited to support the university and the complex of hospitals nearby....with that comes the revitalization of the residential areas underway in and around the whole area. Some areas had some newly completed upscale looking homes to the east. I can't help regarding the public transportation except to recommend checking with the local trasit authority and to mention we saw folks actively coming and going at every bus stop we passed. FWIW the student gov't mentioned that they have expanded their student shuttle service throughout the Cincy metro.

By the way, Taxguy, it was a pleasure to meet you and your family at Bearcat Bound even in light of the packed schedule and flood of information. Look forward to seeing you again soon.

Hardknox: Same here. I don't usually get to match the voices and faces behind the CC postings. It was a nice change. Don't forget to tell her about checking for any openings in my daughter's dorm room.
