Safety School?

I’m applying to several very competitive schools and need a few safety schools. UMaryland is my main safety, as is Bryn Mawr. I was wondering if American could be considered a safety for me. I have a weighted GPA of 4.70, a current SAT of 2260 (I’ve only taken it once, so I have to take it one more time in October) and a current ACT of 34 (also only taken once and will take one more time in September).

I’d appreciate your opinion on whether American could be a safety school for me! If not, does anyone have any suggestions (I like liberal arts colleges, small to medium in size with good programs in either chemistry or international relations).

Based on solely on your stats, yes, it is a safety. However, American is notorious for rejecting students that they feel are using the school as a safety. To improve your chances, consider doing a campus visit, and make sure to do a good job on the common app supplement. But you might want to consider American, its a good school in a great town, and they may give you serious merit aid.
