I've been looking for some good safety schools for me that i actually like. So far my reaches are Hopkins, Brown, and Carnegie Melon, my targets are Northwestern, Purdue, and Tulane, and my only safety as of now if Syracuse. I'm in the top 5% of my class, my GPA is 102 (weighted), and I'm taking 4 AP's this year (junior), so generally looking for something with good academics but that I could still get into for sure based on my grades. I like medium to big schools, with pretty good sports programs (I like the vibe of sports schools). I live in NY, so SUNY schools are always an option, but so far the ones that I've visited haven't impressed me.

also I’m most interested in sciences, social sciences, and architecture as majors… I’m also interested in design, but probably won’t major in something having to do with art

How much money is your family ready, willing, and able to pay each year? Will they pay for an additional year if you need one?

Find out about the money before you get any further. If you have serious financial limits, you will need to take Tay into account.

You can start researching by using architecture major as the limiting factor in a search engine such as on the College Board or College Navigator [College Navigator - National Center for Education Statistics](College Navigator - National Center for Education Statistics)
Start looking through a good guide book like the Fiske Guide to learn more about specific schools.
You can refine later when you have test scores to go on…

For a school to be a safety, then you have to know it’s affordable…otherwise, it’s not a safety. Safety schools rarely give good need-based aid; some give merit scholarships to their TOP applicants.

First, ask your parents how much they’ll spend each year.

What are your scores and what is your UW GPA?
