I was wondering how safe the campus is and the area its located in. Thanks!

its by where all the starts live
obviously its going to be safe

Probably one of the best areas in the US

Beverly Hills
Bel Air
Brentwood

Where the rich and affluent live.

Westwood is a seriously nice area. I think this is what draws a lot of people to UCLA.

sodamoth, my former company's headquarters are right down the street from UCLA. It's a nice area. And the campus is beautiful (and very well lit at night). If you stop a campus cop (and I did) and ask them what the biggest crime problems are they'll tell you that it's bike and laptop theft.

If they had a history department with a better emphasis on British History I would have definitely gone there.

Thanks for all the quick responses! I'm just nervouss because I'm from a really small town so its going to be a big change

Well Westwood is basically where the city of LA comes alive. It should definitely be a different setting to what you're used to but I don't expect it'd be too hard of a transition.

Westwood has a lot of homeless people and doesn't feel too safe to me at night.

Really? If you think westwood has a lot of homeless people then you should check out berkeley. lol

Honestly, UCLA is in a good area. Obviously that does not mean that you should be wandering the streets alone at night, but just use common sense and you'll be fine.

KitKat> Good one. My Unit Apartment at Cal was only about 50 ft. from People's Park. I got my fill of homeless.

Westwood is a very nice area. No one should walk alone in a city at night though.
