i loved wake when i visited it and honestly i might have applied ED if they had sailing. i know it's kind of a weak reason for not choosing wake, but i sail 3 seasons of the year and its something i'm not sure i could give up for 4 years there... i'm 99% sure they don't currently have a club, but does anyone that goes to wake know of the possibility of sailing anywhere near wake? like a lake or something? and how easy would it be to start a club...
thanks!

I love sailing too - I don't have my own boat yet but I would definitely love to purchase one once I get a real job and get out of school. I worked at a sailing camp for a couple of summers and really miss it.

I think you're going to have to travel a little bit to find a lake big enough to be worth sailing on that also rents boats - there's Lake Townsend by Greensboro, Lake Norman near Charlotte, and Jordan Lake near UNC-CH (I have a bunch of friends in UNC's sailing club and they practice here). I haven't been to Lake Townsend but I found them through a Google search and they appear to be a public yacht club with a fleet that they rent out to the public...so that would probably be your best bet.

There's also Belews Lake (north of town) and Salem Lake, but I'm not sure that either of them rent boats.

If you look at the Club Sports Handbook, it'll outline the process of starting a club for you: WFU | Campus Recreation

I know they have an outdoors club but I think they only do like kayaking and white water rapids activities. I asked my interviewer if the club offers any fishing trips and he said I would have to start a club for that. He said that starting a club was very easy and there are plenty of places to fish. So you could definitely start a sailing club.
