Salt in the wound Duke?

My S just got the email saying Duke decisions for ED deferred will be up on the 24th, and how deferred students can access those decisions.

Hmmm. He was rejected outright ED, took it hard. So thanks for digging it in one last time!!! Seriously, very bad form!

Me too!! Gotta appreciate the insensitivity and complete lack of basic human empathy!!!

Same here

Yep, sounds like Duke. Anyone watch the 30 for 30 on ESPN the other night…not exactly about treating people right

Same here. I admit my heart fluttered for a moment, then died.

Shouldn’t have happened (probably a clerical error). I hope they apologize.

@sleepyparent You’re very naive if you believe that events would have transpired differently at any of Duke’s peer schools.

I just got the apology e-mail

Same. At least they had the decency to apologize.

I’m glad they did the right thing! Duke actually has a reputation for sending applicants extremely well crafted rejection letters. This was an uncharacteristic lapse.

I wish all of you the best of luck. You are all destined for great things!

Hello - I’m a little confused. What exactly was posted, and why was it offensive?

@sgopal2 Duke sent instructions on how to view next week’s decisions via email to those who had already been rejected. The orgot to remove them from the pool before sending the email.

@HRSMom thanks for explaining. Sorry to hear about this. I agree this was not well handled.

^ It shouldn’t have happened in the first place. It was handled admirably (with a swift apology).

Arguably better than CMU’s case where they sent an acceptance letter in lieu of a rejection letter. A mistake nonetheless.

Yes, that one clearly wins the bonehead award!!! I think Fordham did something similar for ED.

@sgopal2 I’m curious as to how it could have been handled any better.

It would have been better had the removed the “already rejected” folks from the “how to view your decision” email. They admit it was not an IT error, they just forgot that step. These were kids who were very disappointed at ED, So yes, could have been handled better as they admit themselves. (No one is saying they didn’t handle the apology letter as well as they could have.)

Also, Dear Duke, my kid does not want to go to your “Summer at Duke” program. Not sure how to get off that list!?

If you’re this sensitive about an IT error, I’m afraid of how you’ll handle the real world when rejections won’t be in smooth “Guttentag-like words.”

@Jwest22 I’m 49…I handle rejection just fine. It was not an IT error, they just messed up their comms.

There is always one person who has to go there…why?
