Hey, I submitted the application on Christmas, do you know when I’ll get a decision around by any chance?
@ar0000 I just wrote about what I did in the activities, what made me stand out
so the website says within three weeks, but i know last year decisions didn’t start coming until after january 3 regardless of when you sent it in (except for a few people). i got my decision less than two weeks after i got my essays and everything in, but i was also like a month late, so it really just depends
What are your stats? Are you applying this year?
I know there are two questions you have to answer when applying this year. Does the general application question matter all that much because there seems to be a lot of overlap between my SAMS supplement question and the general application essay.
i’m not applying this year @Egar0325 i’m an alum from last year. if you pm me i’ll tell you my stats, but just remember that sams accepted a very, very wide range of stats last year and your essays matter way more
I’m also an alum from 2017. Was gonna leave answering questions to the alums from ‘18 and ‘19, but couldn’t resist. Currently an engineering sophomore at Virginia Tech, so let me know if you guys have any questions!
What’s the acceptance rate for SAMS? (or an estimated acceptance rate)
@lane0805 Between 10%-15% from what I recall.
Would 3 recommendations instead of 2 be better or should I just do 2??
@Egar0325 having more recommendations doesn’t mean it will make for a better application. all you need are the amount they ask for and make sure you ask people who will give YOU a solid recommendation
@imanifOof thank you so much!!
@Egar0325 I believe we only had allowed two recommendations when I applied two years ago. But yes, I would only get three if you know that they will help.
I submitted my app on the 30th. I had been working on it for a month. I am on pins and needles waiting on the decision. I’ve been following the program for three years.
Yeah, the general application question is rather vague. Since it only asks about the Pre-College program, I don’t know if I can go off writing about SAMS or not. Does anybody feel the same?
I wrote about SAMS since it is the only one I’m applying to from CMU, I’m also on pins and needles waiting for the decisions. I wish all of you luck and please let me know what your decision is, I’ll do the same
The admissions committee is meeting January 7th for the first round of acceptances. I was told I would get a call on the 8th and a letter in the mail soon after.
@BoundtoSucceed , thanks for sharing the info. Did you get notified about the committee meeting via email or by phone?
@BoundtoSucceed Does this mean if I turn in my application by the 6th, I will know on the 8th?
@waytocollege Both, I got an email and a scheduled phone call
