SAMS at Carnegie Mellon 2019-2020 Discussion

I applied on the 9th and haven’t heard back. Did you guys get an email after submitting your application? Also on the application there was a header with English proficiency that didn’t have anything under is that a bug

my brother just received his acceptance today. He was the first application they received. He had applied the day after it opened and due to the holiday, they told him they wouldn’t have a decision until this week. But they also told him they were cutting the program in half.

If anymore folks get accepted you can come talk to me and I can help answer all your questions about SAMS!

@darkermuppet congrats to your brother. He is probably the first one got accepted. Did he get notified via phone call or via email ? Surprised they are doing the notification on the weekend. Hope more decisions coming out next week. Does the portal show a status change after the acceptance?

iam in the process of applying for SAMS this year. where did u guys mention any awards for any extracurriculars? the application doesnt ask for resume . did u put it in the extracurriculars in the participation field? any info would be appreciated

Hi there! I saw on the website that it said you have to be 16 years old, a junior/sophomore by the time the program started to apply, but what if you’re a sophomore that turns 16 two or three months after the program start date?

i think they mean u have to be 16 by jun 27,2020 when the prog starts

@collegebun He received his decision via the portal.

@darkermuppet What do you mean by cutting the program in half?

@BoundtoSucceed have you heard back yet? I am still waiting to hear back and my portal is still not updated.

@collegebun No, I haven’t heard anything, my portals not updated either.

I haven’t heard anything either but seems its taking them longer to review this year. No worries. If its destined for you, it will be yours.

Hey guys, I’m thinking about applying to SAMS as well, but would they look at my app if it’s close to the deadline? I heard the deadline is Feb. 15, and they use rolling admissions. I have midterms coming up so I might submit like in Feb. Would that affect my chances?

I submitted my application the day before the deadline and got in. However this year it seems like they’re reducing the amount of people in SAMS so I would try to do it as early as you can but don’t worry too much about it.

Also can anyone verify when the actual deadline is? I looked it up and it was Feb 15 but not from the actual CMU website…

On the CMU Pre College website the deadline is listed as March 15

I got accepted yesterday over the phone. The program is not getting cut in half. It’s running from Saturday June 27th to Saturday August 8th

Good to hear! When did u apply?

Anyone know if SAT/ACT prep class is mandatory? Or if you could choose doing some other math or science classes than the exam prep class?

@collegebun My son is a 2019 SAMS Alum and he did not have to take the SAT/ACT prep class. If I remember correctly, they gave him a list of options and he did not put the SAT/ACT prep class as an option (he did the Entrepreneur class option which was his 1st choice).

Good luck to all of you… My son has seen on his group chat the amazing college acceptance results of his cohort and he believes that SAMS has played a part in that success.
